Yes, Swans do make elegant characters I enjoyed watching Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, with the traditional choreography involving men and women and the Matthew Bourne version with all men (apart from the tragic ending ) - fantastic costumes in both.

Thinking of 'Swan Lake', I am reminded of what Mikhail Baryshnikov said not too long ago about why he doesn't go to classical ballets anymore: 'Giselle, now that's three hours of your life you won't get back.'

The Charles River flows along the edge of the trailer park where I live. A few years ago, a pair of swans took up residence on the river.
