I was looking at sheet music for his song "Turn, turn, turn" yesterday. This is sad. He was probably the last surviving member of the Almanack Singers and The weavers. He was making recordings as early as 1941 with the Almanacks. Who else from that era would still even be alive?

Paulh, looks like you need to stop looking at sheet music.
What if you look up some Bach or Mozart and then *they* die?!

I was reading his biography (Pete Seeger's, not paulh's) and noticed he had the same birthday (day & month, not year) as myself.

and another one... from 22 years ago... with his grandson who continued to tour with him up until the end...
pete was 73 in this video LOL which really inspires me to continue to Live a Productive Life : )
pete seeger wasnt so much about being listened to as getting others to sing along...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF2LPNiqFWA&list=PL1B2B87D9314D50B9 all mixed up
I just love this and didn't even know it existed (the song) until I found the video!!

Can we minimise discussions here and take then elsewhere please. One or two posts are fine immediately following a death but continued discussion should happen elsewhere.
Otherwise some of us think they're dropping like flies!
Thanks

The compromise is to create a 'Pete Seeger Condolence Thread" in Askh2g2, then link to it here.
Then we're all happy.

Condolence threads are traditionally just a sign-in book
with roses and tears and the same messages over and over.
They used to go on for dozens (in a few cases, hundreds)
of posts.
Here it seems they are more limited to genuine expressions
of surprise, admiration and sadness, often with interesting
personal notations of some experience. These Deathlists are
a welcome improvement on the old h2g2 condolence threads
having much more inspired and interesting content.
Carry on.

This is the thread for the Deathlist game though, not a condolences book.
But I think what is being asked is by all means pop a condolence in, but have the general chatter elsewhere. To which I personally agree, because I too keep thinking someone else has died and am rushing in to see if I score any points from it

I thought it was for the Deathlist game *and* somewhere to comment, not that I had ever really defined 'it', it just was
I have never found it to be a bother to come this thread and reading other researchers posts about the person who has died.

I have always thought these comments more in the spirit of a wake, rather than just 'signing a book' and collecting your points

Pastey Posted Jan 31, 2014
Comment/condole, yes. Chatter, not so much
Starting to derail a little here, and I apologise, but maybe it would be good for h2g2 to have a Condolences area where we can chatter about the lives of those that have passed on.

Exactly that!
We're currently looking at kicking off something we're calling The Lounge, and this would fit nicely there
And now, back to watching out for dead people
