I've bought some peppermint tea bags. Mice are said to hate the smell of mint, so I will put the bags in my cereal boxes to keep the mice out. smiley - evilgrin

These desert creatures will eat almost anything.

The only thing I know of they'll refuse is desert croton, spurge family, related to gopher purge plant, smells kind of like eucalyptus, but no repellent value.

I've hard that you can leave buckets around, only a third full. The rats get in but can't get out.
