Mmmm good point.. I'm wondering if we should just keep it simple to 'write something about the music you love'.

I think that gives a wide remit that pretty much anyone could contribute to, with a few exceptions, which is being me.. (In fact I believe Tavaron has admitted to playing in a orchestra...smiley - evilgrin).

Yes, simple works well for me - and open-ended means that everyone can interpret however they like - whether this is to do with an instrument they play - or the whole gamut of music to listen to, classical, pop, rock etc - even concerts and music festivals.

Shall we do this together Z? You hosted this last one excellently smiley - smiley Unless we have other willing hosts? Step up! smiley - grovel It's not that arduous.

I don't admit having admitted anything... smiley - whistle

How about setting up some threads on the page for some of the different ideas - a desert island disc thread for example, and then people can join in with those or do something else as they wish. I was thinking, for example, that if we had a thread for people to leave links to a piece of music which they think might inspire creative writing (etc) then it's all fairly informal and in any case might generate discussion even if it doesn't lead to full length pieces?

I like the idea of leaving it open.

Good thinking Sol

I was probably thinking along the lines of an overall challenge Entry for June, made from the Create user page - with input and encouragement from the FP spot, and possibly from a thread in Ask, Journal Entries from myself and whoever else would like to support as the host? or hosts? I am rather hoping that the Talking point will be updated to assist us in some way.

A short Journal Entry from the Create user page, to alert anyone who has not noticed other information?

And then conversations, as you suggest, hanging from the bottom of the Challenge Entry page - with extra bits of helpful information? smiley - coffee

Lanza, I've not got time to draft a page for the challenge tonight - would you be able to do so?

I can bounce around encouraging people and so forth. I'll need to go around updating the May roll of honor and handing out badges.

Should we ask for the pieces to be finished by the end of June? Or just started?

I can do the draft, and add your name if you like?

I think submission by the end of June is a good deadline to have, it worked very well for May's challenge.

I think I'm still going to go with my personal experiences with "The Magic Flute." The production I was in was reviewed in the Boston Globe, and some audience members were stunned by the strange costumes. It isn't often that an opera can set tongues wagging like that.

I was a jack of all trade -- a townsperson, a slave, a knight, a sort of monk or priest. In one duet I warned Tamino to have no contact with women. In another duet, I solemnly sang of mankind's difficult road through life. I was in the chorus of masonic priests, and also the general choruses that ended each act.

Sounds Great!

I wonder if I could do my personal experience of 'my first opera'. You know you're not working class any more when your boss gives you a spare opera ticket. Mind you I feel all working class now my comardes have called me out on strike.

That sounds like a good idea, Z. I was sorry when you explained about being tone-deaf and not liking music. That must have made sitting through an opera a rather unsettling experience....smiley - sadface

Oh it was great! I could understand the words just fine - they were written on the board above the singers, and I really got carried away with the emotion of the story.
