"You're letting me climb Mount Landmark alone?" she exclaimed,
fastening her climbing boots.
"I'll drive the car to the summit. We can drive down together."
"Why couldn't we climb together and descend together?"
"That wouldn't be very easy."
"Easy is for wimps!"

Ms Liberty yawned and slowly, luxuriously, stretched.
The smell of warm croissants and fresh brewed coffee wafted past on the breeze.
Below, the sunflowers were opening wide and tracking the rising sun.
Yes it had been the right decision to return home.

[I'm not clear on the allowed length of these stories. Do they need to be 42 words, or can they be longer?]

After atomic tests, a gigantic, nuclear-created monster was unleashed, threatening the city! However it was soon discovered that there were no world-famous landmarks nearby for the hideous creature to destroy. Sadly the beast and the news television crews just went home instead.

The geography teacher at the front of the class asked, 'Which major landmark in North America moves backwards?'
'The Statue of Liberty on rollerskates?'
'Disneyworld during a tornado?'
Before he could tell them the answer was Niagra Falls, the end-of-day bell rang.

"I need to sneeze," said Teddy Roosevelt.
"Can it wait?" Jefferson asked. "You'd spray the
tourists with gravel. Not recommended."
"They'd close Rushmore," Lincoln observed. "Do you
want that?"
"I always support your decisions," Washington said.
"You didn't last time."
"I lied."

Leeds City Council wanted to celebrate the turn of the century by constructing an impressive landmark, but their budget only stretched to buying bags of cement.
Undeterred, they flattened Mandela Gardens, poured the cement everywhere and named the new space Millennium Square.

We have Millennium Park in Boston. It follows the contour of a gently rounded hill, with grass and walking paths. There's a really nice bandstand/gazebo on the summit. It's a wonderful place, unless you know that it was once a landfill.

Is that the one with the statue of ducks? Millennium Square in Leeds is just a large, paved square, although they do have removable trees in wheeled boxes that they can put in the park or take away as required.

[Everybody loves the duck statues, but they're in the Public Gardens, not in Millennium Park. Here's a link:

When I was 8 my family went to Boston. One day we went to the park, where my mother took photographs of us sitting on the statues of ducks. They were from a children's story, but I still don't know which one.

"Welcome to the space station. Earth's skies are unusually cloudless tonight. You may wish to look for landmarks."
"Are any landmarks visible from here?"
"Yes. The Great Wall of China."
"They have enough china to make a wall of it? I'm impressed!"

[Thanks. I'm working on a story about Mount Vernon for February 22, which is George Washington's Birthday. I missed out on Lincoln's Birthday, Feb. 12, but I know a true story about the Lincoln Memorial]

"Can't believe I'm 280 years old today," George said,
looking at his longtime home.
"A million tourists a year visit Mount Vernon," Martha said.
"We had many visitors when we were alive...."
"I never let them stay too late. You needed your rest."
