a question about the manchester 2012 meet
fluffykerfuffle Started conversation Feb 21, 2012
i put this thread under the manchester meet entry so just all you folks "in the know"
will see it and casual observers will not...
its a sensitive question with a, hopefully, happy answer
i suspect it won't be happy
but then, theres me and all that...
a creature made by you, btw
so...
did you guys really schedule a meet that had places in it where people with disabilities
and/or access issues wouldnt be able to attend?!?! ?! ?!
i am almost speechless that you even have one event like that
people who do have access issues are not going to complain
because that is what it will be called
complaining
whining
oh wait... whinging... hahaha
so many people have worked so hard and for so long...
to make it easier for people with disabilities to maintain their dignity with grace...
so...
is it true?

Secretly Not Here Any More Posted Feb 21, 2012
I'm sick of some of the people on this site.
Fkff, you were thousands of miles away from the meet, which was attended by fifty-odd people. Some of them were in wheelchairs, some had varying other disabilities - all of them had a cracking time.
So, other than furthering your "everyone here is an evil scumbag" agenda, what's the point of this thread?
The meet was in an accessible place. The trip around the museum was accessible. The only bit that wasn't, was a few beers the night before the meet. And I fail to see how that's an abomination.
Get a grip.
And given how your toys hurtle out of the pram if someone says "USAnian", the correct term is "Mancunian", NOT "Manchesterian".

The Friday meet-up was not official part of the meet. It was pointed out beforehand that the Friday night venue would be too small to accommodate a large group downstairs. I don't see why you feel you need to make such a fuss about it.

Due to having to inform staff, and to give people notice to arrange their weekends, the venue was chosen some time in advance when I believed that the numbers would be up to about a dozen people. At that point we would have been able to be downstairs in the venue with its full disabled access. When it became apparant that the numbers were going to be larger than we expected the person with mobility issues was approached first. They were informed and consulted about this, and stairs, handrails and access was discussed. They were then asked if they'd be okay with the access, and they decided that the venue would be fine, otherwise I'd have tried to find somewhere else.
25 researchers flew in from all over the globe to attend the pre-meet get together, and as even this was more than signed up it turned out that we were both upstairs and down.
The researcher with mobility issues was not stuck in a corner. After the event they said that they had a thoroughly good time.
For the Saturday night when we planned for the numbers we had, there was a lift between the mezzanine floors.

Your disability is that you cannot read what people are actually saying. You only see what is convenient to you, then turn and twist it so you can complain. I did not use the word as an insult but pointed out a fact.

>>of course no one is going to complain or whine<<
That's because there wasn't a problem. The second anyone who was actually there makes a complaint, you may have a point. Until then you are asserting without evidence and can be dismissed without evidence.
Ta-ra.

Please stop.
Let the offended people speak for them selves.
Do not inflame the debate, please, be kind to eachother.

Fluffy,
some people might consider that bringing the dead into your own private battle is a little tasteless. But as you're just trolling, I don't suppose you care.

no you did not point out a fact... you pointed out an opinion
i have read what people have said
i have said what i think
and its pretty harsh i admit
but then, i thought this issue had been hashed out and solved a long time ago
but evidently not fully understood has it
when its CONVENIENT we will observe disability issues
since the beginning of time folks have asked people with disabilities if it is okay to have the party where they cant come to it
and since the beginning of time most of those with disabilities have said that its fine, go ahead (just dont kill me, haha) (as they used to do a whiles back) (kill them, not say that)
so the reason we had to make laws was not only to protect those with disabilities from folks who would withhold bathroom or accessibility functions to them...
but also to protect those with disabilities from themselves, from their wanting to be a good guy, or be a polite person, or be a considerate person, or just be anything
anything just please dont kill me

I'm not even going to dignify this thread with a comment.
Oh! I just did.
Well. I had a great time, and thanks to all for being so supportive, friendly and accommodating. Nothing in life is perfect, including me, and you won't get any complaint from me.
And Phil? I turned down the fireman's lift as I suffer from a fear of heights as well...
Lol

What a load of from someone who wasn't even there, making assumptions and accusations based on nothing at all. Not worth any more of my attention.
