Oooo... I guess they don't recognise Tiber Septim then.
Graphics card should be arriving in the next couple of days. So I'll be up early on Friday morning to set Skyrim downloading.

Hehe, one of the Nord bards in Whiterun is very disdainful of an Imperial bard who he thinks only sings for money and to get women. Listening to him complain reminded me of Bon Jovi's 'You give love a bad name' but with a slight change of the lyrics to 'He gives bards a bad name'.
It would pe pretty cool seeing someone do a Skyrim cover

How do I know if I hit someone with my arrows? I'm shooting away and nothing seems to be happening, no way of aiming?! I'm an archer, this isn't helpful.

From memory, so maybe not completely accurate:
Escape
Settings
Gameplay
Crosshair - click to activate
Escape, maybe more than once
Wait while the change is saved

The crosshair is on - is it supposed to be floating about to the right of the character? I'll have another go with the arrows later, thank you. I think i might be confusing with Fable, which has proper aiming etc.

I hired myself a mercenary, figured I might someone to watch my back with that maniac on the loose who thinks I'm his enemy.
Not the most handsome of men, but he'll willing helps me carry loot, knows how to cast a spirit familiar in the shap of a big wolf and some other magic stuff. And he doesn't run headlong into danger but allows me to decide when to attack.

Good grief - if you ever decide to take on an Imperial order to clear out some place or other, make sure to fully loot it before you report in. Freya is now being accused of being a trespasser, despite being the one to clear the place, single handedly (well, except for some help from her mercenary). And all the bodies have been cleared away, meaning all the armour she didn't loot is gone too.

Oh, and when I hand over loot to my mercenary, it seems he'll equip the best stuff, so I'd better make my pick before over the rest. For now, I'll allow him to keep the stuff he has equipped, the rest I'll sell. As ever, gold seems very useful...

Oh, and have you discovered that you can marry a NPC? I was wondering why Farkas of the Companions was ogling Freya...

All useful info for later thanks!
I've worked out firing my arrows properly now, the crosshair seems to have moved back to where it looks like it belongs, and I'm busy clearing out a temple. Well, I was in the caves. Killed a HUGE spider easily by standing just out of reach although it could still gob at me, and by sneaking about I've taken a few baddies out with one shot. I've got to the bit where I'm just outside the temple doors, but had to stop for dinner. More later I hope!
What race and class is everyone?

Picking up the new graphics card after w*rk... will be getting Skyrim on Friday!
Race'll probably be Nord when I start out, usually do my first playthrough of ES games as a 'native'.

We seem to be a group of agile sneakers! I've got a Wood Elf archer, light armour, done lots of lockpicking but not really any thieving about. I was in one town for about 5 mins before I was off questing again, so not a lot of choice! Bow first choice, followed by panicked slashing about with a small sword.

Anyone know if you can bind hotkeys to your Favourites?
And good grief Psy (is it OK if I call you that?) level 25 already? Well, I *have done a lot of exploring and talking to NPCs... (currently at level 12). Participating in NaJoPoMo by writing a fan fiction story is also reducing my gaming time. Well, that's my excuse, at least

well I ain't, I'm being my usual character:
Dark Elf (L21) (with an unsettling wolfish grin, apparently )
Heavy Armour (mostly steel plate, superior)
One handed weapon (skyforged sword, superior)
Plus novice healing/protection magic and a couple of basic destruction spells.
Wade in, slap 'em about a bit, then heal and repeat
Also liking the clairvoyance spell.
So far then:
Good: Very immersive, more so even than morrowind. And feels BIG.
Pretty, lots of variation. Very, very playable. Some amusing notes.
Bad: I know I read it all up front but I'm really missing stats and the character portrait screen. It just doesn't 'feel' Elder Scrolls the game.
Menu fiddly for swapping things about in combat (or I just ain't sussed the speedy way yet).
For some reason, having sword and magic readied makes my eyes tired as I squint to see what is out there past the animations. Have to put sword away then draw when I bump into someone.
Followers - STILL get in the way and then complain when you hit them. Tsk.
Darned sneaky:
I cleared a fort of bandits, carried what I could back to sell and left the rest inside in a chest. Returned to pick it up only to find the legion had occupied it now I had done all the hard work and wouldn't let me in! Gits! For that, I ain't joining the legion side!
Potion of strength subtly placed on a pedestal in an alcove. A-ha thinks I, it will be on a pressure plate so I shall neatly step round the corner as far as I can go and then take it. At which point a spear shot out from the wall *exactly* where I was standing. And there was me thinking I was being clever...
And finally, the capricious nature of gods. I help out this daedra prince by clearing out her temple and killing the wraiths and nasty necromancer. She says thankyou, lifts me up into the clouds to tell me I can have the super-dooper sword as my own and then promptly drops me from a great height, killing me. Just can't trust those tricksy daedra princes.
Oh, and seemingly hit a bug. The one about the assassination of the woman in Whiterun. I tried to pay to have one of the assassings let out of prison and whilst they took my money and said he could go, the cell remained locked. So ignoring that one for now.
