Tactics isn't a mainstream game. But no, in 6, Cid does not do the airships, but rather a party member named Setzer (to whom Sephiroth bears a strong resemblance). And there isn't a Cid in 1, either, incidentally.

I know Tactics isn't "mainstream" - I phrased my point badly. I meant that it proved it wasn't the case in ALL FF games; but it might still have been the case in all mainstream ones. But, as I say, I phrased it very badly.
And apparently it's not the case with all mainstream ones (that he's in is what I meant; thanks for the warning, but I had already found out about not being in 1) anyway. Oh well, there goes that theory.

Great. Oh -- and I have no idea whatsoever what effect Cid has in 11.

RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted Jun 10, 2004
Greetings, all. I'm the RFJS_ (or RFJS__, or RFJS) referred to in Post 3. An FF7 rewrite Entry is now in Peer Review, so if you'd like to share your expertise please feel free to take a look at A2713556 and leave your comments.

Been a while since I was on here, sorry, but....
I've now completed my entry to my satisfaction, I think (although if it stays in PR much longer I'll be able to improve the stuff on 1 - I bought Origins a few days ago and have started playing that). However, it doesn't tend to get too much response...especially not from Scouts. Also, RFJS's entry on FFVII recently got commented on by Mikey the Humming Mouse, who suggested it was 'too long to maintain the interest of people generally in PR or the EG'. Now, mine is even longer (although about the whole series rather than a single one, and it's considerably less extensive with much of the detail), so if any fans of the series around could read and comment on either or both (although RFJS has now taken his entry out of PR) that would probably help a lot.
Mine is A2591129
RFJS's entry is A2713556

Okay, but you might want to mention that Squaresoft has merged with Enix to form Square Enix, aka Squeenix to some of the fans.

That info is currently in the first footnote...but seeing as that is what the company now is, it probably ought to be mentioned in the main text, even if the reason (the merger) is in a footnote. Thanks for the pointer.
Squeenix? That supposed to be a derogatory term based on the fact they created FFX-2?

Dunno. I think the point was that it sounds silly.
But here's my take on it: they are both MIRED in excessive detail. And the Final Fantasy one isn't QUITE organized as well as it could be, either. This isn't supposed to be an in-depth guide to the whole franchise -- just an entry in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which isn't supposed to be read as a term-paper. Nobody's gonna want to read all that STUFF except people who already know most of it. I'm not saying you should shred it down until you get something to the effect of "mostly harmless", just something that would inform the casual reader.

Hmmmmm......I suppose so. Right, I'll start thinking about what I can edit out. Although I'll probably keep it as it is on my website. Thanks for the advice, even if it stings a little. As they say, "the fact the treatment hurts means it's working".

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
