Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jan 4, 2019
My choir may be organising a singing weekend away for the same weekend, so I may not be able to come to London.

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Posted Jan 4, 2019
I'm having both second and third thoughts about this as well. I have an appointment in Italy around the same time
But I hear there'll always be an England. Brexit or not. Chin up and stiff upper lip and all that

PLEASE NOTE: Subject line has been changed to the actual date of the event!
And I wasn't saying that I won't be there. Nothing has been decided yet
So there's plenty of time to be worried whether I will come after all

Well U176638 if you let us know your flight number and time arriving at heathrow pretty sure can arrange for customs to do a colonoscopy, save you paying for it....

When someone uses your Researcher Number, it feels kinda like when your mum includes your middle name, you just know you did something wrong.

You can call me TC Posted Jan 8, 2019
I am trying to decide on priorities, too. I may well be back from the States by then, but our choir is doing a project over that weekend, and, as it's the last one with our founding conductor (whom we all love, and are very sceptical about his successor).
So now I am torn between singing and meeting up with people I've known for nearly 20 years......

Donald Trump is threatening my ability to go to the meet up.
I'm working this week, but funding for our contract runs out on Friday. For the last two weeks I've been burning vacation time. I still have 2 weeks for now, but if his tantrum isn't over next week, I'll be back on vacation time if not layed off entirely.

One thing is certain. He will lie. Repeatedly!
There is NO sudden uptick in illegal immigration. The only humanitarian crisis at the border is of his own making. Terrorists are NOT flooding across our Southern border. &c...

There are natural impediments to illegal immigration. Northern Mexico has a very inhospitable desert. Plenty of people have died trying to cross it. This is pointed out in "prisoners of geography." The U.S.A. would be very hard for a foreign power to invade. Some other countries that are protected by geography include Switzerland, Japan, and, to a more limited extent, Great Britain. Australia would be on that list, too, but it taxes the imagination to come up with anyone who would want to. Some mad emperor with a kangaroo fetish?
The geographical terrain of South America prevents its 20 countries from getting very far into the interior so as to vie for control of the continent.
