If chicken fried bacon with gravy is on the menu, the Baron had better drive or else risk a heart attack.

Just a few led's ago I complained about being served hot dogs and beets. Tonight I asked for a hot dog because I didn't want the main selection. Tonight's hot dog came with beans. Black beans! Drained, unsalted back beans straight out of the can, possibly via a microwave.

Here's what you're supposed to do with black beans: first you fry finely chopped onions and garlic till transparent (not you, the onions and garlic), then you add the can of beans to that with a touch of salt, oregano and bay leaf, and simmer till you have a nice gravy. Best served with rice.

I need to have a gentle word with management.

I rarely eat hot dogs (yep, the ingredients) and when I do they're made from some type of proper sausage with texture.

The last hot dog I had was in Edinburgh at The Hanging Bat brew pub. It was smothered in...

Yep...

Haggis.

That was some of the best haggis I had all week.

If one is to eat (American) hot dogs, the cheapest kinds (after selecting the kind of meat you want) are best.*

If they were listing the amount of bone meal going into them in the labeling information, I'd be selectively prefering the kinds with a high bone content, to be taken with a whole grain cereals dish or high bran selection, in lieu of the calcium carbonate tablets one otherwise needs to potentiate the B-vitamins in cereal grains.

*Stipulated, I'll shun a product masquerading as sausage in any form if vegetable products of any kind except seasonings are used in its preparation.

I would add a pinch of cloves and some diced ham to that black bean soup recipe.

No, it was something much worse than that, under the "Great Western" label, composed mainly of soybean hulls.

We do not have to be so afraid of fat. But we should avoid trans fatty acids at all cost. Since Denmark prohibited the use of industrial trans fatty acids, the mortality rate from heart disease dropped by 72 percent since 1985. "Denmark has done much to prevent cardiac death by smoking cessation, increased exercise and advice on heart diet, but what really made a difference is the ban on the use of industrial trans fatty acids", says smiley - doctor Steen Stender smiley - geek

Ever notice you rarely see white dog turds in yards anymore?

That's because they've reduced the amount of bone meal in dog food in the last few decades.

That stuff we were feeding our dogs in the 70's must have been like 80% bone meal.

The bone meal could just as easily be added to garden soil to reduce the acidity. Pumpkins and squashes in particular benefit from that.

bought 8 sausages, from my butchers today.... rahter than waste time cooking, I cooked all 8 together; leaving the 6 I didn't use today, cold, and cooked, ready to go into whatever, during the next few days smiley - zen

One notible thing though, having grilled all eight; didn't need to clean the grill pan afterwards, as there was not any fat, or anything out of them smiley - zen (yes I did prick them, so it could have escaped, were there any) smiley - zensmiley - magicsmiley - hotdogsmiley - zen

I believe paulh's comment refers to the perception that Massachusetts is more liberal than most other states in the union and that since the Reagan era, liberalism has been equated with socialism and socialism is equated with communism and therefore anyone from a liberal state must be a latte sippin', NPR listenin', Un-Uhmerkin, commie bastard sent straight from hell to destroy this Christian Nation.

But I could be wrong.
