I haven't found the very first Front Page yet, though.

I had a similar problem trying to find the first Guide Entry - I think it was A27.

Can we put in links to Gnomon's first ever test thread and his most recent one, which is in PR, currently being abused, I mean improved, by various members of our society

Gnomon - time to move on

NBB, I'm only a blow-in - I didn't even join h2g2 until 16 months after it was unveiled to the public. So I don't think my first test thread would be of any great interest to the public.

I have had some influence on the site, though. One of my entries was picked 14 hours after it went into Peer Review. This was so ridiculous that they instituted the 7-day rule as a result.

And I invented the EF convention for Editorial Feedback, which spilled over into other forums.

Dmitri, the very first entry was A18 - the last digit is just a checksum, so that is actually A1 - the first entry. I don't know what was in it because it has since been deleted. A Guide Editor or Moderator could probably look at it, but even then, there's no guarantee that what's in it now is what was there then.

It looks to me as if A27, the second entry, is actually the First Front Page, although I'm not sure.

Thank you for locating the Entry Gnomon. I just want to make a note here that the anniversary of Bels death is the 4th May.

We'd also previously been considering using A1049979 Titivillus - the Typo Demon, written by Bels, as one of our recommended Entries.

TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office

There's A16832117 in the Underguide "The Wick End of Candles at the Close of a Long Night", by ianhimself, which is some of the most powerful writing on h2g2.

And there's the blutack. The blutack in the bellybutton. And the paper clip, who was offered up as a potential love interest. The matchmaker was surprised to learn that the blutack was male, but said it wouldn't be a problem, the paper clip would adapt: "I can bend him the other way for you." I don't think I've laughed harder at anything I've read, to be honest.

And then there's the delightfully surreal. One of the things I really love about h2g2 is that you can ask questions of some very knowledgeable people, which is very handy when you don't know what to do: F19585?thread=2337043. The hootoo community is a great source of wisdom.

Those are all really great suggestions

I particularly like the 'how do I?' conversation, but who could possibly forget Mu and the blu-tack?

Just a thought for our Birthday

Inspired by;

Amy Pawloski, aka 'paper lady' - U180656

Could we set up an address where Researchers could upload pictures or other images of themselves?

These could then be put on a page we could all access, and any who want to could paste them into their personal space.

I know I have often looked at the photos of meets and tried to put faces with the people I have read about and talked to.

Most of the social boards allow members to post pictures, and I think we should join the 21st century here.

Very good smiley - applause, I find myself only logging to Facebook every couple weeks or so, these days. It is great to see so much of the site is available there.

My thought was far simpler, an 'A' page named 'Researcher Gallery' or something similar, where Researchers could E-Mail a personal photo, drawing or even a logo for their identity here.

In the spirit of privacy this would be strictly voluntary, and no pictures would be added without the Researcher's own submission.

I just think it might be fun to have a spot here where we could all get to see each other if we both want to.smiley - shrug

smiley - cheers
