Dear newcomers to this site, this is just one example of all the stuff that is possible here

If there was a new motorway to be built would the world that is h2g2 be demolished.
It may be archived for posterity but it is the spirit and construction of this weird and wonderful world that needs to survive and prosper. Each time it enters a new orbit something is lost. The spirit of this place needs to be preserved, it is a living and breathing society. How can this be retained in a digital archive.

Not easily is the answer.

The content is here, and the postings/life is here. But it's only by being here that you can tell what it's like.

My goodly gracious gosh gee whiz! Thanks logicus. What a trip down memory lane. Reading that conversation from 2002 http://h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F94387?thread=205384 is like staring into another whirled, an almost lost whirled. People used to write full blown posts and express themselves. There was hope and enthusiasm and a living dream of possibilities. It is particularly grueling to read my own posts and realise how much of my wit has been reducted by the brevity of the newfound nowness of the 'social media'. ~jwf~

I keep hearing about all these trees, falling over in this forest... Hasn't anyone contacted Greenpeace about it? I mean... It must be an aweful lot of trees... they might be diseased or soething, if they keep just randomly falling over
