Carving the face of Crazy Horse on a mountain....

Post 1

paulh, vaccinated against the Omigod Variant

There is an ongoing project with the aim of
carving the likeness of Crazy Horse on another
mountain, though I don't remember what state
it is in. (I don't know how they would know
what Crazy Horse looked like, as he refused to
allow anyone to take his photograph. Perhaps
someone painted a portrait of him?)

There are a few researchers who estimate the
pre-Columbian population of North and South
America as about 100 million (more than the
70 million that inhabited Europe at the time).
There was probably more than a 90% mortality
rate among Native Americans from the smallpox
that the early European settlers carried with them.

One of the early governors (Bradford? Winthrop?)
mentions going to some Indian villages to trade,
and finding 90% of them dead from disease.

thank you for your reply. since I began writing this I have realized there is no way I can include all the details. I don't think the Indians will appreciate any likeness of any of their cheifs being created, but I could be wrong. If you would, please join the discussion in peer review on my entry. I would love to see it become acceptable for the edited guide, and perhaps some people will learn some things they didn't know.
