Updated, I saved it twice once as a jpg and once as a gif. Bsod 2 is the gif, and bsod 3 is the jpg

One thing worth bearing in mind is that the file size limit is 20KB* for an Entry illustration, while BSOD3 is 43KB. When it's reduced, it will probably look quite different than your finished version here.
*Even at 20kb it might well be reduced further before it hits the Front Page...

2 or 3 are the same photo just different file types. I'll save them again later (on downstairs computer at the moment) and re-upload them

I've got it down to 19.8kb, and if you like it can get it down further.

Though the gif is obviously sharper while being half the file size. That's why I want to be able to use gifs even if we *can't* have animations.

So you can't use gifs full stop? even without animations?

Yes. You drape the contortionist over your shoulder and speak into his ear.

For certain pictures, gifs are ideal. They minimize the size of the file without the "Witness Protection Programme" pixelization you would get if you made a jpeg of the same size.

Good for blocks of colour. Jpgs are good for photos.

I draw AG exactly wrong for online presentation - too much shading for gifs, not enough for a well-compressed jpg
