Hi Vauxhall Astra, thanks for volunteering to be a Community Artist. I have visited your personal page on the Deviant Art site and feel that you would be a great asset to the community artists, but, just like everyone else you will have to complete an entry test. That shouldn't be a problem for you!!

To join this volunteer scheme there is an art test. This is because the standard of Edited Entries on h2g2 is very high, and the Editors would like the illustrations to match this.

We would like you to choose two random Edited Entries using the Infinite Improbability Drive. You are asked to do a picture for each of them. You can look in the GuideML-PictureLibrary for the kind of graphics used in the past, use the entry for inspiration, and use the internet for research, but make sure that you follow the specifications that you can find on the CommunityArtists-What page.

Please produce just the main image for each title. For this test each image must be 200x200 pixels wide and have a black border that is one pixel thick.

Once the graphics are done, let the Editors know by Posting to this thread. The details for sending them into h2g2 will then be given to you.

If your pictures meet the Editorial standards then not only will you become a Community Artist but your test pictures will be uploaded to h2g2 and added to the entries.

Feel free to ask questions and good luck.

NB: The same rules of copyright apply to images as to text. If you are in any doubt as to what this means, please ask. Also, the Editors do not want to see photographic manipulations or montages.



Just let us know when you're done with the graphics. If you have web space available, post it here, and if not, we'll work out something else.

And lastly, your images must be saved in jpg or gif format, and please keep the kb down as low as possible without sacrafising quality. oh and.....have fun!

Okay, VA, there's absolutely no question of your artistic talent, the only concern would be that you only draw in the anime/mange style.....is this just your preferred style or your only style?!?!?! I really like your vampire graphic but whether or not it fits into the 'BBC' idea of how that edited guide should be portrayed I honestly don't know!! I know that we have to take care with certain issues so as not to cause offence or upset....!! We like to 'suggest' rather than be obvious with some graphics.

It's now going to be next week before the other Community artists come back with any feedback with it being a bank holiday, but I'm sure the response will be positive. If you have the time and wish to try another style though that would be fantastic so that we can see your versatility...thanks!

Well, Anime is my preferred style.

But I can also draw with semi realism and things.

But If the guide does not like my style, I don't think it would be a good idea for me to become a part of the team.

...and being a photographer taking photographs is my preferred style, but we're not allowed to use photos!!! All I'm saying is there are some edited guides that wouldn't suit an anime style and it would be a good idea for you to stretch yourself creatively and try other genres. I can think of one example: I chose 'onions' to illustrate and opted for a semi-realistic look but with a cheeky twist, painted entirely in photoshop, but for walking in extremely high heels I drew it by hand and scanned it in.....do you get what I'm trying to say!?!?!? If I insisted on only drawing in one particular style I might have found it frustrating that there wasn't an edited guide that suited my style of drawing!!!

But let's be honest, being a community artist isn't a life or death situation, but it always impresses people when you drop it into conversation!!!LOL

You must decide if you can rise to this challenge or just want to let it go..............................

just another thought......I did a caricature of Prince Charles for an edited guide and the author asked for it to be removed as she was offended by it. Now, this same author told me that she now checks out my personal page as she likes my other graphics but was upset by the Prince Charles one........we have to remember that we are just 'decorating' someones words and that they might not like what we have drawn for them..........!!! You have to prepare yourself for that.

I REALLY hope that you decide to show us just how good you are at other styles....!
