Now there's an idea, yeah we could do that, funny enough the press gangs used to operate in my home town, each pub would have a look out and most pubs had a tunnel or secret exit so people could escape
As head of the armed forces I would like to form a Press Gang

Press Gangs aren't groups of journalists and editors.
During the 18th and 19th Centuries the Navy wasn't a popular career option and not a lot of men signed up to be sailors so groups of sailors, usually Marines went into town and 'recruited' volunteers by coshing them on the head and carrying them off, whan thhey came round they were usually at sea so they used to jump over the side and swim that's why each ship had Marines on board to 'persuade' them to stay.
The Army had press gangs to only they were a little more sneaky in their ways, they used to paint a rosy, patriotic picture of army life when of course the truth was very different.
Here endeth today's history lesson

and because of press gangs from Royal Navy vessels stoping american ships at sea, the 1812 war began. And we got clobbered, and destroyed the British forces encrouching on New Orleans, but that battle was technically, not part of any war
~~Thus ends my contribution to today's history lesson~~
that was a cool song btw

and the US and the British Empire went to war because the US asked the Empire to stop abducting its men at sea and the Empire said "Get over it"
we fought at sea, the US did pretty well against the largest fleet in the world, the British army sacked and burned Washington DC, we both built a fleet in the Great Lakes between Canada and the US and the US won, signed a peace treaty, and then fought the Battle of New Orleans oops!
