If a tv news bulletin is on for thirty minutes you will not get thirty minutes of news. For instance, if there is war activity in The Gulf then the newsreader will say:
'American forces in the Gulf were placed on alert today ...' there will then be silence as a piece of library footage is shown of an F-14 taking off from an airctaft carrier guided by someone with a pair of table tennis bats. Unfortunately this piece of footage has been shown on tv literally hundreds of times and is just lazy journalism. On radio the journalists can't pad their work out like this and have to produce news. It is hardly surprising that so many controversial subjects, such as the David Kelly affair, begin on radio.

radio is much more immediate, rather than the teevee, and my transistor radio plays on batteries if all else fails.
i definitely prefer radio audio over teevee audio for sporting events. radio paints the picture.
