I'll chip in, if I may:
To this UK head, the current wording gave rise to my Q (obviously!) but once KB had replied, it became clear.
To be fair, I was away for much of those particular episodes, so didn't have a proper picture (again, obviously) - and what I did have (then) was strongly one-sided.
Can I suggest a few inserted words of clarification from you, Beatrice?

"Debate continues over the use of the site of the former Maze/Long Kesh prison: much of the objection to redevelopment projects comes from Unionists, who worry that any building constructed there will become a shrine to Sands and the other hunger strikers"
Is that any clearer?

Yep, I'll change the wording this evening. Thanks Beatrice.

So, I will wait a bit to see which documents still need proofreading. I could squeeze in one or two more.

I'm just picking off the last four individually Paul. I'll put the magnum opus online later.

'Tis all done, and I'm all done in!
I've sent the final version off to lulu to creare a proof copy. I'm expecting to get it back just after easter. Bloody ban collie days! I wouldn't mind, but I'm working them.
Thanks to all, especially Milla who was really churning them out *proof-reading in a foreign language*
Trout's awesome levels of anal retention have inspired me to read this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Penguin-Guide-Punctuation-Reference-Books/dp/0140513663
If anyone wants to take a second walk-through, drop me an email. (Oh god, what kind of commas are those?) I can email you a version of the fulll thing in word or as a pdf.
I expect to make final updates over the weekend of the 30th/1st.
Once again, thank you all: Mags for co-ordinating, Rod, Paul, Rosemary, Vip, elentari for proofreading? Who else?
Thank you!
Ben

Ben, you say:
>>If anyone wants to take a second walk-through, drop me an email<<
What does that mean? (Wasn't it going to be two readers per item on the list?).
I have a mind to add at least some of them to the reader's page on my offshoot of my club's Wiki.
In which case I will be reading them all in order to select so could proofread as a sideline - but it won't be quick for the great majority.

Hi Rod
The original hope was indeed two readers per entry, but tht didn't actually materialise. In most casest here was me and a proof-reader. In four cases it was just me.
I'll order the first set of 'real' copies on the weekend of the 30th/1st, so any changes spotted before then can be incorporated to the master that's used for those copies.
In fact of course, changes can be incorporated at any time, but I'd like the thing fully stable before the middle of May.

I ain't good with promises, so I won't. I will, however, make a start...
I am assuming no one will mind me publishing in my wiki.
I'm not going to ask everyone so - if you object then tell me on my space or here and I may reassess (presumably this thread would have fallen into disuse now...).

Actually, Rod, I'm not clear what you are proposing to do, but I am not comfortable with h2g2 content being published elsewhere online.
Hmmm... ... this is complicated, isn't it? I do know I am uneasy about work being done by people who aren't members of the site. (Though I'm aware of some hypocracy here - I might ask a couple of my NaMoWriMo type friends, so MY friends are fine but YOUR friends are just folks this dude on the internet knows. Oh dear.)
You see, we have to assume we are in a competitive situation here; once the implications of that sunk in, I broke the links to the full master versions in Word and PDF.

Show & tell time, eh? OK
Some months back I mentioned this in two or three places, got virtually no comments so continued adding pieces. I know there were quite a few visitors and assumed some of them were from here.

The relevant pages are under "... a Little Different" at bottom left.
I thought of it as perhaps attracting newbies, as well as entertainment.
I will, of course, remove them all if you feel that's appropriate.

What I should have said at the end of my post 215 is:
. I will act on a clear consensus
. Failing that I will act on Ben's post 212:
>>...I am not comfortable with h2g2 content being published elsewhere online. <<

That's Rod.
No different to Twit/face.
Can you not, though, link to the specific entry rather than the users PS?

Magwitch,
Just tried ten or so at random & those go to the entries.
The ones in Barlesque, though aren't so clearly entries - to my eye
(I've kept away after an initial tryout)

Rod, I respond only on behalf the single paltry effort of mine that you've nominated as fit to read and not inter alia the dozens from Pinniped that make up nearl all the rest of the list but what you've done seems fine. You haven't actually cut and paste content (which is how it appeared in the backthread), but you've linked back to this site. I'm failing to see any problem with that.
Key: Complain about this post
