Elf, how about you do #41, and I do #42?
I think we have to leave it to Ben to sort out those inconsistencies. Perhaps just email the biggest ones on [email protected]

I'm up to page 54 of the GBD and in the mood to finish. I wouldn't say the errors are big, although there are quite a few typos.
I'm not used to using more than the most basic of programs, so I don't think I can make the changes the way you guys do.
I'll keep going and wait for Ben to give me the go-ahead (or to tell me to get lost).

Ok.
I mixed up the tasks, the GBD, and the collection of entries. Sorry. Getting tired I suppose.
42 sent in, and picking up 41.

I've lost track.
What's the state of play?
What remains to be done?
I can perhaps scrape an hour or two during UK night for your more urgent stuff

Hi Rudest Elf
I'm nowhere near as paranoid about the GBD - it's more for internal consumption among researchers, and maybe for presenting to whoever wins the bid if we don't. So very useful to have your comments - probably best either to just note them down and send them over - but there's nothing like the pressure there is on the collection.
I've had to pull down the GBD temporarily anyway, and I will be updating it before I put it up again, so don't lose sight of the copy you are working on!
Rod - I've lost track myself - I've probably got everything I need. I can proofread myself, it's just very helpful to have other folks' eyes over the entries as well.
Thanks all
Ben

OK Ben, I'll look-in anyway.
There is that Q I raised still outstanding & I feel it should be resolved (re my post 168)
#37 Bobby Sands
The piece is about Ireland - Unionists, Republicans & hunger strikes
Third para from bottom says:
>Debate continues over the use of the site of the former Maze/Long Kesh prison, with much opposition to redevelopment projects coming from Unionists, who fear it will become a shrine to Sands and the other hunger strikers.<
Surely, such opposition would come from Republicans, who would want a shrine?
[I've left it as was because of the quality of the piece but am concerned]
Can anyone make informed comment? I'll leave Gnomon a message.

Ask Beatrice, it's her piece. It was apparently lawyered to hell in a handcart by the Beeb...

If I ever propose doing another one of these, I'll sort the hyphens and quotation marks out first, I promise!
I've got 32 done, and just 10 to go. Since I've been messing around with all sorts of other things this evening, I should be able to finish those last ones off tomorrow.
Thanks everyone for your help.

"From 17 to 20 I find no Wake up and smell the coffee"
Hi. Milla. I sent in *both* of the 17s: the one that really is 17, and the one that is really 16 but had a file name that indicated it to be 17.

re #37, Bobby Sands - & my posts 168, 188.
I've had a reply from KB:

No, I'd say it's right as it stands (although possibly it's not really that clear-cut). The thing about the proposals for redevelopment is that they included keeping some of the buildings and transforming them into a museum/conflict studies centre, which some unionists would see as an IRA shrine in all but name.
Although I say it's possibly too clear-cut because some parts of the site are listed buildings for their historical importance, which was done under a unionist environment minister, and the initial proposals for making a sports stadium on the site came from a unionist minister, too. But yeah, in broad terms, it's probably right that opposition came more from unionists.

So, let it stand.

I'm a bit lost now; how many more articles need done and which haven't been taken?

Mrs Zen Posted Apr 18, 2011
I'm pretty lost as well!
I've still got to do
SEx Education - Wake up and smell the coffee
The Story of Yogh
David Beckham's Red Card
and
How to Write a Scientific Paper
I'm ok just doing them myself, to be honest.
What I will do, if you like, is put the whole thing online when I'm done, but with a link you have to email me for, so if anyone wants to have a final go through they can. And much appreciated it will be.

*pops in*
Are we OK on the Sands piece? Republicans are quite content that it become acknowledged as the historically significant building that it was - whatever it becomes, that legacy will always be there.
Unionists would prefer it be razed to the ground and obliterated from memory. An empty field would be their preferred fate for the former prison.

I just said "some people opposed" and left it at that. A cop-out, but hopefully not too obvious a cop-out.

Hmmm, I might have to object to copping out, since it is still is a very vociferous issue here. My whole thrust in the entry was to give both sides, and I think this one is an example of where the "2 sides" still find areas of disagreement, even 30 years later, and with "The Peace"
