Carefully sitting on a convenient rock, she takes a deep breath and takes a long look from where she came, a smile gradually breaking across her face.

Standing up to her full height she takes one more look behind her and then faces forward, resting her eyes on the peak ahead.<<

Right, then. Time to conquer this mountain.

After a few miles, the gravelled path ends at a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley below. The sun is still high and the sky blue; there's plenty of daylight left.

The outcrop has a map, so the fairy checks it against her own. The route they give isn't the one she had taken; it turns out a chunk of the hill had suffered a landslip last year and the path is now unsafe.

Phew! Disaster averted!

With a pencil she marks in a few salient points and refolds her map to fit back into the waterproof pouch around her neck.

She looks back to see if anyone else is coming...

The only reason I'm here is that I've lost my way.

If being here is being lost, where were you intending to be? I have this handy map, you see...

I was following my nose, actually. I thought I smelled freshbaked pastries and good coffee.
