Where has this been all my life?!
Lenny (Lynette) Started conversation Aug 23, 2002
Has this only just gone up?! I put a thing up in ask the community a while back and everyone 'looked' at me blankly!
So, congratulations and thanks for doing this!
I want to join very much indeed. I have a yahoo profile so can sign up when I get the word. I'm currently working on my first proper novel which is a supernatural thriller. I'm considering doing a writing course but am 'humming' and 'aaaahing' about it.....
I have an affliction, I need help!

I'll pop you on the list. Feel free to join the group on Yahoo in the mean time. Oh is it also possible to add a little blurb I can stick on the page?

Hurrah! *strain* *heave* Argh! I'm a bit stuck...
What would you like in the way of blurb BTW? I can compose something fairly swiftly! Well, as long as I can free myself slightly from the old 'tack here

Right-ho. HOw's about this then?
I like reading lots of different things but I’m going through another ‘horror’ phase at the moment. I’ll read anything from J K Rowling to William Boyd. Classics old and new entertain me greatly! I love books to be well told with a sense of humour; if a story can make me laugh out loud, I’m there. I am happy to read and comment on many genres from authors who are old hands or just starting out. This doesn’t stop at novels – I’ll tackle a good informative book too.

apologies for the commas going wrong. This came out of cutting and pasting from word. Again!

Hello all,
I think I know what I like but I haven't tried many things yet, I don't like some things, and when I don't like them I can't be bothered reading them, so I would hope that this would overflow into my writing.
I haven't written much, just a semi-autobiographical short story, but I enjoyed it and I was happy with my work and I fancy doing a bit more, it's a big jump to novel writing I would think though eh?
I recently couldn't be bothered finishing Twelve Bar Blues by Patrick Neate although it sounded really good.
I loved Papillon, Lord of the Rings, Are You Experienced (William Sutcliffe), I'm currently reading The Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon on the back of seeing the film (book by Michael Chabon) Wonder Boys.
In summary, I suppose I'm as yet undecided and a bit of a waif as to what I'm going to read and write, although I think I find it a bit easier to write based on something solid if you know what I mean.
I'd best end this

Hi Arry
great to have you aboard!
Whilst you're there, would you mind activating your personal space and telling us a little about yourself please? That way one of us ACEs can come over and give you a proper h2g2 welcome.
Look forward to hearing more from you...

This group could be just what I need! I have ideas for a number of books floating around, one of which I've actually roughed out the background for, but I have yet to start any serious writing. The book will be humourous (I hope) science-fiction. The other books are sci-fi / fantasy, with the emphasis on fantasy (probably). One of the reasons for holding back is that I have nowhere much to turn for constructive criticism of my work. Hopefully this group will give me that!
As far as my tastes in reading go, I like crime (I have the complete works of Agatha Christie. Not a great author, but a real page-turner. I also have the complete works of Dick Francis, another real page-turner), thrillers, fantasy and *some* sci-fi (but less now than in my youth). I also read a lot of non-fiction; history (mostly pre-20th century), natural history (especially prehistoric creatures and evolution) and travel / exploration (pre-Second World War).
I have a Yahoo account, so sign me up!

I was wondering if would be possible for some - or all - of you to plug the Writer's Group on your personal spaces. (Though I don't know about anything about getting a picture for the group eg like the Musician's Guild blob.)

Hi DMS! Do you want to exchange links with h2g2 Fiction? A294833
It's not exactly the same thing as the Writer's Group, but similar; I'm sure we can guide people both ways to whichever suits them better
