Eclectic?

Yeah, everyone says that. Unfortunately, I am yet to see a genuinely eclectic record collection.

If I could spell facetious confidently I would make the facetious comment that there are no records in my music collection - only tapes and CD's ...

However dyslexia aside (sound out the letters I have used and you will probably get to the word ...)

and side tracking again - who thought it was a good idea to give a condition which makes spelling a real problem such a difficult name to spell ....

To the point - is my music collection eclectic? Well it is certainly very varied and contains some very unusual things - but the trus answer lies in what you consider to be ecclectic ...

So here is a question for you - what would make a music collection eclectic?

At least some of all the following:

Baroque Concertos
Classical Symphonies
Romantic Preludes
Post-Romantic Fugues
Something Heavy by a 20th-Century Russian
Ragtime
Blues
Country & Western
Hot Jazz
Cool Jazz
When-does-the-tune-start jazz
Folk
Ballads by Crooners
Rock n' Roll
60s Garage Rock
Proto-Metal
Prog Rock
Motown Soul
Heavy Metal
Disco
Glam
Reggae
Punk
Post-Punk
Ska
New Romantic
NWOBHM
80s Synth
Indie
Happy Hardcore
Grunge
Goth
Dance
Dub
House
Gareth Gates

OK - so it's not an entirely serious list, but that is a condensed history and I think it's pretty eclectic.

Like you, I've given up trying to describe my record collection.

Currently, my best description is 'music that makes other people say "Oh - that's a good tune"'.

At the minute I'm on a big Bob Dylan kick. But I'm quite happily interspersing him with the Propellorheads, John Coltrane, Iron Butterfly and Rachmaninov's 4th piano concerto.

Oh, and fyi: NWOBHM = New Wave of British Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, that sort of thing.)

Iron Butterfly were the authors of 12-minute heavy rock classic In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. You may have seen it on the Simpsons, where Bart substitutes it as church organ music under the title 'In The Garden of Eden'. smiley - winkeye

From here in America, the only musical genre I mostly dislike is country, and there are lots of exceptions there. I'm not too interested in music, though. Once in a while I sit in the car with the radio blasting, and that's about it. I like classical and jazz, but don't listen to them much at all.
