Removing entries from a Review Forum (LINKS)

If a digibox user wishes to remove something from a review forum and can't use the 'Remove' button, they still can do it themselves... all you've got to do is to post this link anywhere you like on the site (the obvious place to do it would be into the review forum conversation thread itself, but it could quite easily be posted into one of your own journals and it wouldn't make any difference

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/SubmitReviewForum?action=removethread&rfid=1&h2g2id=676352

Ok, what you have above will have to be personalised for your own entry...

This is how you do it...

towards the end of the link you'll see a set of characters rfid=1

This must correspond to the review forum you want to remove the entry from...

ie.
rfid=1 will remove something from Peer Review
rfid=2 will remove something from the Writing Workshop

then

at the end of the link you can see a six figure number, this is the A number of the entry itself (look at your personal space to find the Axxxxxx number if you don't know it)

Replace the figures I've put in (676352) with the Axxxxxx number of your entry (ignoring the initial 'A')

If you can't copy/paste then you'll have to type this link out in full, so it might be worth writing it down somewhere before you start... being careful of uppercase/lowercase letters

if anyone has any problems with this link, just scream for help smiley - ok

(Note to moderators - the specific link in this posting is being used as an example only, if it doesn't work, please do not remove it smiley - grovel)

Oh and needless to say, once you've posted the link into a conversation (or journal entry) you'll have to click on it to make it work smiley - ok...

The author of the entry should be the only one capable of removing an entry from a forum - if anyone else clicks on the link the system just sends them a short message saying they haven't the right to remove this piece from a forum

Not many, I've just had one though and thought it might be a good idea to explain it...

Still not sure exactly what you can and can't do from a digibox... can you click on a link in a posting? if so, there should be no problem, all you do is to type the above link (customized to your entry) into a posting then press post, once it appears you can click on it and hey-presto, your entry has been removed from the forum.

It should work for digibox users, however, at least now the method is actually written down on-site, then even if the digigbox user him/herself can't figure it out, someone should be able to (if Amy isn't on-line). I've also let the scouts know about this thread so they'll know what to do if it happens again.

smiley - cheers
