Hi!
Feel free to post your problems you would like (not solved, I can't do that, I'm afraid) But worked out and interpreted into non-tech straight-forward english
Hopefully, I will be able to apply a work-around which should help you to cope with the system.

Just popping in to suggest that if you are having web TV problems there is a page that may help.
Go to <./>A700200 </.> it's The h2g2 WebTV Help Desk

Sorry thresher, a quick explanation....
This site is made up of:
User Spaces - these can be identified by the fact the the address of the page is identified as Unnnnnn (U180644 for example, which is my personal space)
Entries - these are the full pages of info that people type into the guide and include the address Annnnnn (eg A700200 which is the WebTV Help Desk)
and finally
Threads, which are the conversations, each one of which is attached to a specific entry, for example, this conversation thread is can be accessed either by going directly to its address F84558?thread=175844
or by going to the associated entry, which in this case is A700200 and then looking for the list of most recent conversations, which is after a title saying
'People have been talking about this entry. Here are the most recent Conversations:
Under that title is the list of the most recent conversation threads on the subject of the entry in question.
This particular conversation thread is entitled 'Problems' so if you're on the page entitled
'The h2g2 WebTV Help Desk'
and click on the conversation marked 'Problems' it'll bring you to this conversation.
The reason I was asking Feisor where he thought the thread was is that he was directing back to the entry this conversation is attached to... in other words he was sending you around in circles
He'd probably forgotten which conversation he was replying to!
Hope that helps a little Thresher

Oh and by the way, this is to Feisor---->

OOPS!!! Sorry all !!
Thresher - if it helps I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place
It will let you in on some of the Jargon and the smileys and all sorts of things ....
I am now unsubscribing - I'll leave you with the experts
You can just click on my name if you need me

Torg, if you have your page in Plain Text (it looks like it is) you can post links just by typing the number of the page.
So for excample typing A700200 would make a link to this webtv helpdesk article, or U151102 would link to my page. This number is in the entry data box on the right hand side of the page.
The online link can be done by < . / > online < / . > but without the spaces in the brackets.

Wow!! Thanks very much. Can't wait to try that.
I'm also about to experiment with guideml. Does it work for that too?

BrownFurby Posted Apr 20, 2002
It is more difficult in GuideML because you can't just type A700200, you need to use the full code
WebTV Help Desk for an article
or
BrownFurby for a user page
or
online for the oneline link
Articles have A numbers and user pages have U numbers.
GuideML is quite difficult on TV internet because you can't copy and paste (a way of using the mouse to copy the code from the pages which explain it to your user page) so you need to type it all out letter by letter.

Another question if I may. Can I set up a second user page under a different name and if so how?
Whenever I log on I'm taken to my own page. How can I get in as if I were a newcomer?

Accidentally unsubscribed so this is to make sure I know of any replies.

I don't know if there is a way to get round the external links problem, I suspect there probably isn't
There have been 2 threads that I have seen on the signing out and signing in again as someone else
Always remember me on this computer F47996?thread=176878
and Impossible Problem F84558?thread=177374
Although aka has suggested a solution, we haven't yet heard that this has successfully worked so if you are happy with the identity you have TORG I would stick with it. I read that one researcher lost their identity and had to set up a whole new one because of this problem.

Indeed I have a solution! But as for the Forbidden - I know exactly what you mean - we used to be able to access the full internet on telewest boxes, damn it was slow, but it was better than 5 games sites that were a load of dingos` kidneys...
They stopped that then, and replaced the external sites with "forbidden" access pages.
Until you get a proper webtv, or a pc, then theres no way you'll get outside-telewest-interactive access - The only reason you can get here is because its on bbc.co.uk - The BBCi website has a few sites on Telewest - all falling under "www.bbc.co.uk" - News, sport, weather, teens... Look - Try using http://www.bbc.net or is it http://www.bbc.net.uk ? I forget.. Because none of the pages at the OLD bbc site are on telewest, you get forbidden access pages on telewest boxes..
So that's basically why you get them, and you can't fix the problem.. I suggest you click on the links:
Always remember me on this computer F47996?thread=176878
and Impossible Problem F84558?thread=177374
and come back after you've read them and tried out their solutions
Anymore problems, I'll see what I can do
I think the rest of the postings were answered by others, too
