Wasn't he once a footballer?
(I seem to have vague memories of the commentator shouting "Souness".)

'Wasn't he once a footballer?'
Graeme Souness was most assuredly a footballer! He had a very distinguished career in the 1970s and 1980s, playing for Spurs, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Sampdoria and (Glasgow) Rangers. He also made numerous international appearances for Scotland. He was a famously 'tough-tackling' midfield player!

It's all come flooding back. I can see the wing chair and that awful multicoloured carpet... and the fibreglass curtains...
the music of the juggernauts and the sweet smell of lead as it seeps gently into the juvenile braincells...
dadada da dadadadada dadadadadada dadada da dadadadada dadadadadada...
(Could it have been part of the actual run in (or out) to MOTD?)

Hey Topic Drift is the essence of hootoo.
Ok; it is now 08.57 GMT - I am going to take what I have at mid-day GMT and weave it into a dazzling garment of scurrilous and pointed verbosity; and then hand the fruits of our joint labours with obeisances and giggles to our wondrous Italics.
So you have three hours to get your word in...

Minging definitely means something highly disgusting up here in edinburgh, and is often used in a derogatory manner towards members of either sex.

Being a bit if a minger (to rhyme with singer) means that in no way would anyone want to sleep with you. And I believe it does indeed stem from minge meaning part of female anatomy sad to say....
OH yes, and that reminds me of the word mong...

Is 'minging' related to the Northants use of 'plating' or 'muffing' (as in Muffin the Mule (loud guffaws))?

Puts me in mind of the classic Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper song "Stuffin' Martha's Muffin'". tsk tsk.
