So you study at Nottingham University, eh? I live about thirty minutes walk from you. I also spent 7 years at Nottingham, doing a PhD then a Post Doc. So drop me a line at my email address (on my personal space) if you're thinking of doing any more Guide-related programming work, and we'll have a chat over a pint.
I downloaded GuidePost and was quite impressed. What did you program it in?

Wow! That's cool. I was beginning to worry about the local h2g2 Researcher population being just me! I shall send you an e-mail at once.
I wrote GuidePost in Borland Delphi 3 Professional. Not the best language perhaps, but it's the only Windows development stuff I have so I have to make do.

as I know that you are a linux user, why not consider using kylix instead. Although you are not allowed to sell the resultant programs, you do get the advantage of being able to compile the same code for linux and windows.

I have Kylix Open Edition, don't like it. Doesn't interact very friendly with my window manager (Sawfish, hardly an unusual one) and somehow it just isn't right programming for Linux with something like that. My eventual aim is to develop Linux and Windows versions from the same code base using gtkmm-2.0 which should have pretty good Windows support, and I can compile it on CygWin. With a decent installer it'd be no harder for Windows users to install, although it might look a little odd... unless the Windows gtk+ backend includes a perfect Windows theme engine!

After that conversation we had down the Last Post I've decided to investigate the possibility of producing a WYSIWYG GuideML editor. However, I'm never going to do it unless I publically state that I am doing it and so have my credibility at stake.
So here's the project details:
GuideDog (version -1.0)
WYSIWYG GuideML Editor for Windows 2000/98/ME. Will require IE 5.5 (possibly IE 6.0). Currently in feasibility study.
Key: Complain about this post
