There was also the fact that they didn't know until very late in the 4th season that they were going to get the fifth and final season so they crammed alot of what woulkd have been in season five into the fourth season that along with cast member leaving the show meant that season 5 was quite weak.
Less than 20 minutes 'til Who!

Tentative thumbs up. I really like Ecclestone as the doctor.
However that epsiode was just introducing a new audience to the show, have to wait until next week to really judge I reckon.

True, the first episode always has to impress, but I was really impressed overall. Russell T Davies is an excellent writer and I think the casting is fantastic

Just watched the new Doctor Who, it was quite good, been a long time since I watched The Doctor so can't really fairly compare it to anything, Ecclestone's Doctor, as expected was cool, not as impressed by Billy Piper's charater as some, thought the Autons was a good place to start. Quite an action driven episode, funny in the right places. Look forward to more.

Yeah it'll probably take a couple of episodes to settle in.
I like the new format of one whole story in an episode.
Christopher Eccleston was great.
Looking forward to rest of series

absolutely fantastic! I loved that the Tardis still makes the same noise.
The Gruesome Twosome kept asking when they had to hide behind the sofa.
Roll on next week.

Brilliant. Eccleston was on top form. CGI was used sparingly and intelligently rather than getting in the way of everything.
First appearance of the Autons would have s**t-me-up good when I was 12.
Only problem was fitting a whole story into 45 minutes. I'm glad there are some two-parters coming up but there need to be more of these in the future.

I remember the ep way back in the past when the shopdummies were killing people by spitting bits of plastic over their noses and mouths out of fake daffodils.
The Gruesome Twosome weren't too fazed by this (they are 6 and 8) - probably because they watch too much sci-fi already.

Must admit it was much better than i thought it would be.
Ecclestone was excellent and Billie Piper was suprisingly good
The Autons used to freak me out as a kid and they still are pretty freaky, though the scene where they were all coming alive reminded me of Shaun of the Dead.

Me too. And Rose running around with the arm reminded me of an episode of Spaced. When Simon Pegg appears in the series I'm just not going to be able to pay attention at all am I?

The Auton arm attacking the Doctor gave me a good giggle, as did the Nestene controlled wheelie bin.
Burp!

Well I watched Dr Who. It was ok until the shop dummies started their walkabout. It reminded me of the old Dr Who baddies. Were they suppose to be taken seriously, it was more like a comedy take off by French and Saunders, especially the plastic bin that swallowed the young man.

Best things:
* Christopher Eccleston, who has 'become' the Doctor almost immediately
* The special effects, which were both impressive for a TV show and used sparingly
* The Autons, which are still impressive baddies
* The references to the show's history, which were suitably subtle (compare and contrast with Paul McGann's story with all it's jelly babies and long scarfs etc)
* The title music, which has thankfully barely been altered
* the new tardis interior, which is excellent. I can't help but think whoever created the original interior would have said 'Now, *that* is what we were trying for!'
* the fact that Russell T Davis et al have plainly taken-onboard the positive aspects of shows like 'Buffy' whilst not trying to emulate them and keeping 'Doctor Who' a distinctly British show.
Bad things:
Very little, to be honest. I wasn't sure about the evil wheelie-bin (although it's far from the silliest Who villain) and, as I said before, I thought the story was rushed. Although, as someone on another forum mentioned, it was set-out like a Pilot episode rather than a full-story.
