Shall we begin the fruitless speculation about who the new Doctor will be or should we wait for an official announcement that there will be a new Doctor?
I like the one we've got personally. When I was about 6 I announced that when I grew up I was going to marry the Doctor. I can really identify with my 6-year-old self at he moment.

Pointless speculation? Well, I can throw some wish-list stuff around...
Ok:
I'd quite fancy Karl Urban to play his Necromonger-type character as a Who Villain. He was scrumptious and it'd be nice to have a fanciable bad guy.
I still want a proper male companion. Not necessarily straight but again not fancying the doctor. And not a side-story happens to tag along companion, I proper central character for the doctor to bounce off and revel in.
Erm.. That's it for now.
*dreamy Karl Urban thoughts*

Alfster Posted May 21, 2008
Agreed.
Why not straight...would make a change to have a striaght character in Dr Who for a change...as RTD has said he always wanted to be the companion rather than the Dr one can see why the the companions have had so much focus nd why they have fancied him all the time(which I find insulting for young women...as if women would automatically fancy the Dr like the last two have.)

I think David Thewllis (spelling?) would be a good Doc, but I kinda reckon he is a bit too A-List to take it on.

Br Robyn Hoode - Navo - complete with theme tune Posted May 21, 2008
The reason I said not necesarily straight is because in the past I specified a straight male companion and got moaned at for that too. I meant I genuinely I dont care so long as they dont fancy the doctor.

If we're going to do pointless speculation:
*I'd like to see a female master. In a suit.
*I'd like to see a "Wrath of Khan" style story, meaning taking a monster or setting from an old classic-series story that wasn't followed-up and then, erm, following it up.
*I'd like to see a story set entirely in the/a TARDIS.

Gridlock from the last series ... Macra ...
I keep hoping to see the Yeti reappear.
The original idea for the series was for it to be a voyage of discovery for children(?) to learn about the different era's of history. That quickly went down the pan when the monsters started to take precedence. Nonetheless it would be nice to see a few more along that theme, but without having to explain everything via alien monsters (e.g. Shakespeare, Pompeii, Agatha, Queen Victoria, Dickens).

I've just spent half an hour on YouTube thanks to one of the links here ... Wow. Some people have a lot of time on their hands. I'm lost in awe of some of what's on there.
Some of it's a bit rubbish though. And the six minutes of photos of Billie Piper during filming is frankly scary.
BBS's story arc theory is plausible but I hope it's wrong! I *like* Donna.

I like Donna as a companion. If DT leaves I think it would be unlikely that CT would stay though, given both characters seem to have been written with those two actors in mind, unless I am wrong.
Also, on a technical point, if DT leaves surely they will have to work in another regeneration for the Doctor and given he only really has three regenerations left (unless there's something we don't know) doesn't that make things a bit difficult?

I'm sure there are busy little brains whirring away right now on that particular issue. I always used to think he had nine, like a cat.

Giford Posted May 22, 2008
It'll be interesting to see what they do with companions over the next 2 years if Tennant doesn't do the 2010 series. Specials, to date, have had one-off companions (OK, Tate later returned, but that wasn't the intention). Is Tate contracted beyond the end of this season? Or will they try to introduce a new character in the specials? Bear in mind that this new companion would have to be the audience's 'anchor' through the change of Doctor. Could be tricky.
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let the number of regenerations stand in the way if the series does run for another 3 Doctors. How many bodies has the Master had since his last 'official' regeneration?

Well, if the sainted Rose is coming back she's already been through one.

Hopefully when we get to the 12th Doctor, he will be unaware of what the "solution" is. So that throughout his tenure they can really play on a perceived real morality on his part.
A genuine beleif that his time is nearly up would give a great undercurrent to whomever played the 12th doc. I must say I am kinda looking forward to this. After a couple of super chirpy Docs, a sort of morbid one would be ace.
Also just think that when he does "die" for the cause how noble that will seem....

eloisa Posted May 22, 2008
Except, no doubt, somebody would leak information about the next series!

Mol - on the new tablet Posted May 22, 2008
Or, given that it hasn't been referenced recently, They could just quietly ignore that bit of canon ...

Twelve regenerations means thirteen Doctors. Does no-one remember the bad dubbing in the 8th Doctor TV Movie?

Ferrettbadger. The Renegade Master Posted May 22, 2008
Ah well the point still stands.
Besides didn't the Master get given another cycle of Regens? In which case we know it is possible. I would just like it if the Doctor was under the impression that next time he died it was curtains....
Dr Who.
Alfster Posted May 22, 2008
That would be a superb plot-line. Even if we knew the BBC wouldn't can it and would work something out the actually 'journey' to that point would be great. Although since all timelords have known this happens possibly they have come to terms with it overall.
Though of course he is supposed to be the last of the Timelords(apart from the Master - but he's dead...um...yeahhh...) so it's not as if there are others to take his place.

Br Robyn Hoode - Navo - complete with theme tune Posted May 22, 2008
Ecclestone wasn't *that* chirpy! I certainly didnt see him that way...
Anyway, maybe he'll be able to transfer into other bodies rather than regenerating like normal for one of the changes or something...
What's the bets that by now, Rose has gotten over him and is quite happy wherever she is? (would be funny )
