A very good episode IMO. The angels did scare me, although I was worried that over-exposure might weaken them.
Riverboat Song is an interesting character, but I can't help thinking her flippancies with regard to the Doctor are slightly over-used. It seems like the writer is awfully taken with the idea of 'someone who talks to the Doctor like that', like a new toy. It's not too intrusive though ... yet.
The winking instead of blinking was a great idea. It's one of those that, when you see it, you're astonished you didn't see before.
Also, does anybody else see a similarity between the dead people communicating in this episode and in the Library episodes?

I like the way that the nations kids are now scared of all the statues, regardless of whether they look like angels or not. Yeah, give 'em all nightmares

Really liked that, but Amy Pond isn't working for me I'm afraid.
I really like River Song, she's a fantastic character and I enjoyed how Moffat brought the question right out at the start: is she the Doctor's wife? River's response to it was good.
I like the idea of River making occasional appearances: never being a full, permanent companion, but popping up and staying for an episode or two before going her own way again. She's a fantastically independent character and she has great banter with the Doctor. If she was always there it'd be grating but as an occasional foil: superb.
The Weeping Angels are probably the scariest monster in New Who: loved seeing them back.

Not the two-headed statues though. They're okay.

I'm afriad I shall have to agree with m'esteemed colleague Mr Iago.
I think River Song is a terrif character creation, she worked in Silence in the Library and her reprise here was every bit as strong. I think the incidental companion bit (with the occasional protracted hiatus) would be perfect especially here counter-manding of the usual flow of time.
By comparison Pond seems, a pale shadow, I thought the character okay at the beginning (still disappointed she's not a cop) the sceptical note sounded by the raggedy doctors unreliability' but I'm just not sold on her yet, which four episodes in, I feel I ought to be.
It'll be interesting to see where the conspiracy of 90's Amy goes, that might yet redeem her but it's slow progress....
Also who's betting shooting the gravity globe makes them all float up to The Byzantium?

Loved that episode, though, can't wait for next week. Matt is shaping up to be an excellent Doctor.

"Did anyone else notice that when Amy was trapped in the trailer with the image and the Doctor said "Don't blink" she started to wink alternatively. Seems like the easy solution to the whole thing ..."
Have you tried winking alternately? When I spotted her doing it I tried it and couldn't keep it up even for the rest of the scene without blinking, it's surprisingly hard!
I really enjoyed that episode. SO much better than last week's, and the way they've brought back River Song and the Angels works really well. With regards to Amy, do you think that her looking pale next to River is deliberate? Especially when she says the 'does anybody need me?' line. Overall though a cracking performance from all, and I can't b****y wait until next week!!

The Angels are in thier heads - it wouldn't suprise if the ship was right in front of them but they can't see it, just like Amy couldn't see her hand wasn't stone. I am most looking forward to finding out though!

Also, after last week I posted a link to a blog I'd done about the episode. I've done another one this week at http://wp.me/pLq5j-2e and I'm posting it here because it is fairly relevant, but I realise that this may come across as a bit desperate for a blogger so if anyone's annoyed by me doing it then please say so and I'll stop posting the links here in future.

I was hiding behind my cardigan for quite a lot of that episode . As was Nod (13).
7 year old Osh was very blase and says the angels aren't frightening any more.

I was full of expectation for this episode - and I wasn't disappointed! I was so caught up I didn't realise we'd run out of time until the music started and then I went "Nooo!" Those angels seriously creep me out! And I've got to wait another week to find out how they're defeated this time.
I really, really like Matt as the Dr. But I still haven't warmed to Amy. Maybe she'll grow on me eventually.
Roll on next Saturday!

"It'll be interesting to see where the conspiracy of 90's Amy goes"
Hmmm ... I'm not convinced about that ... rewatched the "Eleventh Hour" the other day ...
- The glimpse of the ID card (issued in 1990) is just that a glimpse. Nowhere near long enough to see without a freeze frame.
- The nothing older than a M-reg car is plain wrong. Later in the scene there is an 'R' reg car which dates it at least to 1997-98.

I think there's a way to prove the 90s conspiracy one way or the other: what year was the Beast Below set in, and how old did it say Amy was?

But that's the crack in time conspiracy ... that they have the future technology in the wrong era ...

Alex Kingston - has she been watching John Nathan Turner era episodes for lessons in hamming it up?
Apart from her attempts to disrail the whole thing with her pantomime performance I thought that was a pretty splendid episode.

An occasionally returning occasional companion? Is Moon River Moffat's Captain Jack?
Another thing just came to my mind.
1. Amy POND
2. RIVER Song
Coincidence? Perhaps.
