Mikey the Humming Mouse has written an entry about a game called the 'photo scavenger hunt' - http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A548570
This idea was put forward by Pegasus as a suggestion for an h2g2 meetup activity and discussed in this forum: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F36526&thread=125009
I think it sounds like a great idea!

I don't remember seeing it unfinished...
I think the game would be great. Essential items for any team I think are a mobile phone and a well packed address book - the more contacts you can use the better.

I'm sure there'll be at least one member in every team with a mobile phone. Hmm... there's a thought... photo-quests and/or clues could be texted to people at certain intervals.
I think 'having a list of contacts' might be cheating rather though. I thought the idea was to go out as a team and use our own ingenuity.
I think there's a bit more in Mikey's article than was there before. I know she said she was going to finish it.
I think at least some tasks would need to be seasonally minded, such as the team in a winter scene (in appropriate outfits). Should people be able to form their own teams though, or should the judges decide? I think it's important that 'new' researchers are mixed in with researchers who've attended meets before.

I don't like scavenger hunts very much. Can't we just go straight on to the drinking?
It's a shame it'll be too cold to play softball and laze around in the park again. I enjoyed that one. What can be done in the cold? Ice skating?

Impersonating Francis Bacon by stuffing a chicken with snow?
Perhaps not.
Probably best to think of an indoor activity. If its p'ing down it won't be fun to be stuck trogging around outside. There was some very good suggestions in the original thread which I've totally forgotten. Hey ho said Rolly.

This may be a silly idea (tell me if you think it is, please!) - maybe not for /this/ meet, but one day, we could do an international photo scav hunt...so basically there's a whole bunch of meets at the same time all over the world, and everyone's given a list of things to find (which might have to be specialised for each country).
Just an idea I had.
Oh, while I'm here...I don't s'pose anyone wants to shout me a plane ticket so I can come to the meet??
No, didn't think so, just thought I'd ask

Hi all
We've just discussed this in the office, we think it's a fab idea! This may well be the one! I also like the idea of other people being able to join in around the world, even though they can't make the party!
We may even be able to include MaW's idea of skating. A picture of the Researchers on skates! There's a place in London that does open air ice-skating over Christmas, if it's still open in January we might be able to include it!
Nice one everyone!

One of the tasks could be a photo of the team with a Santa Claus..
The game will be more fun if we don't know the tasks in advance though, so you would have to put the tasks online during the meet, or else e-mail them out to people who are going to attempt it, or something, to stop people pre-planning!

Wow, that'd be a challenge in January! There might be some left around, it's a good idea!
We definitely won't tell you the locations/clues beforehand. I think that we'd probably need a different set, or a partially different set for the people doing it around the world. Things like, a photo of you sitting on a lion in Trafalgar Square might be a bit tricky otherwise! Although, hey, let's make it hard for them... If they can't be bothered to fly in for the party...

Oh, we can be bothered, it's the finances that're posing a bit of a problem!!
You could get someone in each country to adapt the list so it works...

A photo of the group in a snow scene could be a great challenge for researchers down under.
How about, to even it out, another photo which requires the group to be in a hot and sunny scene! That should balance the challenge out nationwide.
Also getting someone to develop and print your film within the given time limit could add a further aspect to the challenge.

Opps, forgot it was in January . Still, it was a good oppotunity to use the
smiley...
It will be fun to see what different people have done (great thing about photos is they can be excahnged easily on the net).
The tasks should be as much of a suprise as possible.

There should be plenty of places in central london with a 1 hour service... We could all meet up at an agreed time, get the photos developed, and then all slope off for a chat and a drink for an hour then come back to collect them and judge the results... Come to think of it, how are the teams going to be judged?
