You can call me TC

What about me? I feel really silly without being able to use an apostrophe.

The H2G2 Editors

Hi all. As Ancient Brit has pointed out, the Beta has now been taken down. This has been done so we can do some much needed maintenance, ahead of the full launch of the redesigned site, which - you'll be pleased to hear - is very imminent indeed. Look out for more news on our <./>Announcements</.> page very soon...

Gah Heathens!

The real travesty is the loss of the classical beauty of Alabaster!

Gnomon - time to move on

It was the default skin when I joined h2g2, in Sep 2000. And since the only alternative was hard-to-see thin letters on a dark background, I soon got used to Alabaster.

I went for Brunel, as it was the first to have navigable back-buttons . . . soon this chat won't make much sense any more.

I'm feeling very Marvinesque about the new site. It's not going to work for the visually challenged. And such a boring ski8n!!

I've been holding my true feelings back a little but, now that the thing is up and sputtering, I'm going to be honest.

For what little my opinion is worth, I haven't yet found anything about the 'upgrade' that is an improvement on what we had before.smiley - sadface

we've gone from a great deal of choice to none.

we've gone from a system wherein one click took us immediately to the latest posts of a conversation to a system where a multitude of clicks are needed and it isn't horribly obvious when new posts have arrived. Perhaps that will be fixed.

as has been pointed out elsewhere, apostrophes are catastrophes so far

the text is too big

the colour scheme is dull and too much like Dawkins.net.

etc.

Maybe the functionality will improve, but . . .smiley - sadface

kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

To be fair anhaga, you haven't tried the new site once it's up and running properly. Why not wait until it's all go, then give us a few days to sort out what works and doesn't?

I'm expecting there to be things I don't like (the most obvious for me currently is that threads are limited to 20 posts per page smiley - grr), but until I get to try out the new site I won't know the balance of good and bad.

We have got our long taglines back (which I understand no-one else on the beeb has).

Josh Clarke - The Auburn Time Lord

Anhaga, I don't think it was really meant to be an 'upgrade', it was a transition to fit the new BBC website design rules. Plus making it more modern looking and shiny.
