And with the dot thing, you don't have to set up each dotted name as an account, you just use the address and it goes to the main account.

Just been locked out of J's account for the third time. What the hell did I put in as the answer to a secret question I've used a 1000 times!?

The new BBC system will indeed send you an e-mail with your password in it if you forgotten it. I believe the old system would do that too. The problem here is that the old system is being turned off, so if you're not in the new system by the date, your old account will be lost.

Does the existing system send an email? When I was trying to get into some old accounts I just got stuck in the answer the secret question thing. There didn't seem to be an option of getting a new password emailed to me if I couldn't remember the answer.

Well it's good the new system will then. Still strange that having an email address is optional.

I know this ain't the place to say this but, really, the under 16 thing is pants.
No matter what is said here (and I admit to being as guilty of filth as anybody else. Probably more guilty than all but Leggsie) under 16s can still read it, even if they're not members.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Jan 16, 2010
I resemble that remark
WEll, what I tried was;
clicking on the link in the first post of this thread, which takes you to the page to migrate from SSO to BBCID/;
Put in my current log in details, fine, I am in as 'me'.
Then fill in the bits that need filling in on the 'migration' page; log in name (the one I'm using now), password (just using the same one I use now),
Re-enter password (same one again),
I think most the other boxes were already filled in with E-Mail, Date of Birth, sex, etc....
Then put '2legs' into the username to be displayed bit.
Then there is a 'OK' and 'cancel' buttons towards the bottom of the page, after all the T&C stuff.
Neither the 'OK', or 'cancel' buttons can be activated by my clicking on them, hitting 'enter' on them, or 'space bar' or by routing PC/JAWS cursors, or performing a manual left or right click or double click ..
I've come accross such a problem before; the most obvious place is on EBay where you can't leave feedback when using a screenreader with IE, but the buttoms on there will* work if you use it with firefox.
I tried with both Firefox and IE and with neither could I get it to work.
Just about to try something else now though

OK, That seems to have worked this time :- used a differnt screenreader and the 'OK@ button worked... I'll know for sure once the database is 'refreshed' or whatever and it displays my 'name' as I put it into the BBCID thing....

With the under 16s I believe some cheeky wotsods were using h2g2 as a backdoor to misbehaving on their 'own' sites so h2g2 lost out. Again.
Def no chance of getting back into SSO if password and secret answer forgotten. I just can't imagine why mine/J's isn't working.

Maybe you had capslock on when you typed it in originally, or you ended it with a punctuation mark?

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Jan 16, 2010
No I did* double check all that when I first tried last night; Its just obviously a flaw in JAWS on links formatted in that* way... I've noticed it before on some parts of EBay and other sites, where as I say Just using Firefox seems to fix it on EBay, but on here that didn't help, so I used NVDA (a free quite basic screenreader), which worked...

London Spring-Summer meet 2011- A79731967 Posted Jan 16, 2010
Well just migrated the london meet account over, and it worked in IE with JAWS So now I'm not quite sure why it didn't seem to work when I tried it for '2legs'

People have tried to break me before... they've never suceeded so far
Actually I'm wondering if I might have been suffering from a problem with my shortbreads.... yes, I think it may have been connected to my shortbreads, as I'd have logged in recently from a number of differnt accounts whilst changing over the E-Mail addresses ready to put them through the migration to BBCID, I wonder that it may have been shortbreads.... as I did* delete all my shortbreads just before I migrated the London meet account over; as it kept thinking I was Mr omelette
Damn Shortbreads... they always cause problems...

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jan 16, 2010
I realise now that the problem I was having with upgrading my daughter's account was nothing to do with the fact that she is not allowed to log on to h2g2. She can still use the BBCid Signin screen and therefore upgrade her account. The problem was that it required her to enter a parent's e-mail address as well as her own e-mail address. This was not obvious. It's sorted now.
