My password's always been 7 characters long
Maybe that's why SSO never gave me any problems! (I basically have the badge 'cause it's pretty, and to show my h2g2 age)

I may be wrong but I think SSO had to do with the DNA Parser.
This was used for several different sites and rather than having to give each their own exclusive domain someone thought it would be nice to go from one to the other without having to log in at each one.

Oh fergodsake...
I tried the sign in at the link provided above.
It asked for my Username and Password.
I typed in the same info required by h2g2 login.
And I clicked.
Then it said:
"There has been a problem
Your session has expired. This is probably due to inactivity or could have happened if you cleared your cookies. If the problem persists try signing in again."
I wonder if it might be because I was already signed in to h2g2.

PS:
And yes I had (or thought I had) already updated my account via the procedures laid out a few weeks ago. And, obviously, I am still signed in here at h2g2. So was the 'problem' because I was already signed in here?
Not that I currently have any interest in any other BBC websites but if I have to log in THERE to get HERE I foresee (as they said) "a problem".

Thanks Eds
~jwf~, I had to update several accounts and I noticed that things went smoother if I was logged out before I tried to register with bbcid.
If you've already updated in the past, go to a bbcid site (Eds put a link in their last post above) and try logging in there. If you can, then you've already updated, if you can't then you should be prompted to update (register).

Ever since all this BBCiD started, BBC pages ahve been very slow loading for me. It has improved this year, but it iiis still very slpw at times. That 'session expired' thing is probably the BBC not being able to process all the requests coming in.

Thanks kea,
I tried that again, this time before logging in to h2g2 and it appeared to accept me because it went back to the 'player' forum
page with the only change being that the bit that had said 'sign in'
then said 'sign out'. No friendly Hi johnwfulton, no don't panic,
and not much of anything else.
It also said that particular forum keeps bankers' hours and closes
for business at some earlier hour. And it provided only one link away, to the main BBC Homepage. Which has no link to h2g2 I can find.
So I tried the 'search BBC' and got a page of links to hootoo pages.
Choosing the h2g2 homepage I was greeted by the usual h2g2 'sign in'
dialog box. Coulda saved myself ten ninutes jsut coming here
first and not had to read all the clutter and useless info on the BBC homepage which is mostly news and links to more bad news. If there's a hootoo link there I can't see it.
I guess it'll all come out in the wash.
But I still say it doesn't need washing.
peace

i dont think anyone as covered this
-
as you know now we have to use a seperate email for seperate accounts, ie mbplayer and h2g2.
-
just incase anyone as or does use the main email for the mbiplayer, or by mistake does a new account with the nickname.
-
you can reteive the email and use the setting, to delete the account, and redo with such as an hotmail or yahoo email thus keeping the main email you use for the h2g2. if and when you change to the new signin.
-
when i tryed the mbiplayer for my check for something, i have now deleted, and will in time change only for the h2g2 myself, i dont use messageboards, blogs or the mbiplayer myself, just h2g2.

To know if it has worked, go to:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbiplayer/
Click on the Sign In link in the top right corner. A sign in screen should appear. Sign in using your BBCid username and password.
If that works, then the upgrade has worked.

We just thought we should respond to something jimcracker said:
>>>>>as you know now we have to use a seperate email for seperate accounts, ie mbplayer and h2g2.
Actually, this isn't right. You can use the same email address for your new iD account (which will give you access to sites like mbplayer) as you do for your current h2g2 account. It is only one email address per iD account.
If you've got more than one h2g2 account and you wish to migrate them all, you will need a separate email address for each one you are moving onto iD.
Hope that makes things a bit clearer.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Jan 19, 2010
And the GMail trick seems to work; Rather than setting up a zillion new Email addresses, I used the two GMail addresses I have, plus an old 'Talk21.com' Email address I had, Then for any other accounts, I did the messing with the existing GMail log in name....
So:
[email protected] became
[email protected] (and was recognized by BBCID as a differnt Email,), then,
[email protected] (recognized as differnt to the others),
Then basically moving the full stop in the Email address to differnt bits each time recognized it as a differnt Email address... (err [email protected] isn't my Email though... just in case anyone wondered like... )
