A small upgrade to the Brunel (default) h2g2 skin will occur tomorrow, Wednesday 8 September, at 1000hrs BST, in order to enable a few small tweaks here and there. Although we anticipate that there will be no down time we thought it best to inform you here in case any of you do experience any difficulties in logging in or posting on the site.

Is this a good place to complain about alabaster appearing on the front page when you're not logged in?

I love the Brunel! How anyone can use the garish abomination known as alabaster is beyond me!

cause alabaster is the only one that doesn't make my eyes hurt, plus looks the most respectable so I can Hootoo in the office a bit

I like Brunel, something about it appeals to my inner librarian (i.e. sad person who likes things to be in exactly the right order).

The right order for who?
TC - staunch goo supporter. We started like this - why change? It's the content that counts, not the colour of your skin.

That's exactly it though - content. Though colour does matter to the visually impaired or those with limited monitors as well as to the fussy.
Classic is easily the most attractive but takes longer to download because of the goo. Alabaster is just plain ugly. Brunel is garish but it has slightly more functionality so it wins, no contest. Otherwise plain has a lot going for it in terms of looking clean and being low bandwidth (with the style sheet extra flexibility for geeks). However, some of the button images still hadn't been fixed/removed last I checked and it didn't have everything brunel had.
