That *is* odd, Jim! The "eminem" version was never posted! I *previewed* it then I changed it before posting... Weird...

The topfives disappear occasionally after server problems, but it's now reasonably easy to make them reappear. Only trouble is, they only disappear on one server or another, so I have to track down which one.

A point regarding the possibility of posting to the longest threads causing the problems: I can't speak for QO, but No No No!!! is usually fairly quiet during the daytime and evening (UK time), with only a couple of people posting at no particularly overwhelming rate. The thread tends to be busy after midnight, particularly at weekends, but few of the 'seizures' seem to have occurred at this time.
(OH, and thanks for the kind comments about the Scrumpy entry, folks!)

Jim Lynn Posted Feb 26, 2002
I've looked at the posting patterns, and it wouldn't seem that the times when there's a lot of posting to the busy threads coincide with the outages. Unless the simulposting completely locks up and fails, thus leaving no posts in the database and no clue that that was what was causing the lockups.
So I'm still looking.

Jim
What are you doing still posting at 11.30 pm!
Go and have a or you'll be found fast asleep over a server making it overheat and blow up !!

Jim Lynn Posted Feb 26, 2002
I'm at home, so I'm far enough away from the servers that if I fall asleep and drool, I won't short-circuit anything.
And we're watching the Hithhiker's DVD. I just happen to be online as well.
