19 December 2001: Christmas Scheduling
The H2G2 Editors Started conversation Dec 19, 2001
Because the office is closed over the Christmas break, and because we don't want to starve you of your five Edited Entries per working day, we're scheduling the site to rollover automatically while we're off partying too hard.
This means that those who have Edited Entries going up over Christmas will be emailed in advance, as we are pushing all these entries through the Editorial Process now. This may have some strange effects on the Month of h2g2 page, and will mean that the Info page shows a larger number than you'd expect.
We're back in the office on 2 January, when things should get back to normal. Well, as normal as they ever are...

Sounds extremely complicated, shall we hold a sweepstake on how long that system actually operates before crashing the whole H2G2 system..
I reckon about 2pm on christmas day

If it's going to crash at all, my bet is it'll be at the same instant that the BBC security guard turns the key to lock the offices up for the holidays...

Hi
Well it worked really well last year, so it should all go to plan.
If it does crash at 2pm on Christmas day let me know via a message on my Personal Space. What do you mean if it's crashed you won't be able to post a message? Oh well, ho hum! Have a sherry instead then.
Seriously, have a good Christmas, I'm sure h2g2 will be fine!

So, are we going to send our Scouts' picks into blue space then?

Thanks, Peta - have a good one yourself! I won't know if it has crashed until the 27th or 28th - I'm visiting my Mother for Christmas and, after last year's laptop hassles, this year I've decided to go "cold turkey" (ironically!) on the internet. I'll put a good chess program on my Palm Pilot instead...

No, we'll be checking for referrals over the Festive Season, as long as you're nice to Peta, who'll be working from home to keep everyone happy.

Thanks Tube and Amy.
I weon't be online every day by any means, I'm going to my parents for Christmas too and they don't have access. If you see anything pending please do reassure the Researcher that it will be looked at reasonably soon, but not immediately. Just a limited holiday service will be available!
Christmas is normally fairly quiet, and everyone is usually really nice and sociable over the holidays, so I don't think a lot of material will be referred over anyway!

Well, happy christmas all you wonderful, wonderful people at the Towers! I'm sure the new servers will tick over happily over Christmas, and I'll be able to come along on Christmas Day and say hello to everyone.

Hi Peta
Enjoy your time off. Don't listen to us selfish lot about what happens if the beeb goes splat when *we're* on hols.
You an all the rest of the editorial team enjoy your family time
Thanks for letting us open the big box with "new servers" on it, early.
