A Conversation for Guest Room #1 (The Lighthouse)

The areas where I lived and worked haven't changed much, the only addition is a Methodist church that has been built on what I always knew as a piece of waste ground.
The big chnage in town is that the "new" part of the Town Hall (the bit behind our indetikit Victorian Gothic pile) has been torn down and replaced with an amazing gallery and green house type affair. It links through to another set of gardens and a square that always been there, but because of access had never really been used properly. The story and images are here - http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/whats_new/winter_garden/default.htm
The other big change was to the Students Union building. I didn't recognise it! Everything that could have been changed has been. Not that at my age I would ever need to use it, nor really feel comfortable using it again.

Hi there
Thanks for your support last weekend - sorry I was in such a mess. I know I had been overdoing it after a bug.
I really did want to be at the meet and to see everyone again
Did you have fun?
What was all the gossip? Who did you meet? Please tell me all about it

Hello
Yes I had a great time, what I remember of it, at the meet. I didn't in the end get there until about 4:30pm, I guess I just didn't get my ares in gear properly. There were plenty of people I knew and didn't know at the event and I just generally circulated - not something that is terribly easy for me as I'm sure you know. I guess the highlights would be:
- Njan & Nyassabird holding court whilst joined at the hip.
- Pastey and VIP snogging anything that moved, and in the formers case, anything that didn't as well.
- Bob the Farmer accidentally mooning the pub. Apparently there is a photo somewhere, but it isn't on site yet.
- Meeting Dragonfly and Ian. She seems perfectly normal and quite quietly spoken in real life.
- Finding out that Ekki is not some long haired greasy no mark nerd in his mid 30s, but actually a tall attractive and very well spoken young man.
- Finally meeting loosehead, who turned out exactly how I expected him to look.
- Meeting Luckystar after so many duels in the 'back again' song title thread.
- Talking to agcB about life liberty and the persuit of happiness (again) and her forthcoming trip around the US with GTBacchus.
- Poor old Croz losing Zak his stffed duck to some evil kidnappers (probably Abi plus others unknown). There is a kidnapper id floating around with a blobbed picture of the poor unfortunate animal. And a ransom demand of 5 guide entries to be written by the Community. I've done one of them, as I was feeling a tad guilty for winding Croz up with a plate of chicken bones, and saying, "here's Zak."
I think that just about covers it.
Oh, and they've got some more t-shirts and other goodies made up with the h2g2 logo on it. They won't be for sale but will be offered to the community as prizes for various things at meets etc.
As for this weekend. Well yesterday I went off to Millwall to watch SheffU lose in a really scrappy game. I felt so depressed by the whole exercise I just came home and sulked all evening in front of the TV.
Today, I've spent a couple of hours tracking a load of Smiths rarities put up by one seller in Germany on eBay. Frantic bidding in the last few seconds of each of the auctions. Overall I came out pretty poorly winning only 4 of the 18 I was playing on. That said, some of the prices that others were prepared to put down were frankly silly, so it's back to the drawing board if I still want to find those records.
And next week, well tomorrow actually, it is back to the grindstone of costing and all that collected rubbish. I'm not wildly happy in the job, but hey it's a job so I suppose I've little right to complain.
From reading your threads. It seems you've had a tough couple of weeks with illness and stuff. I do hope that you're OK now and getting enough rest. I don't want you ill you know!

It sounds like it was brilliant
I wish I could have been there!
I heard that Nijan had propsed ...
I also heard that Ekki was one heck of a hunk (via Abi)
And I am very jealous that you got to meet so many people including Dragonfly and loosehead ...
Should we feel sorry for Zac the Duck?!?
I need to get myself a mug ...
Sorry to hear about the football - I know you were looking ofrward to that game. And to hear about the Smiths things.
I had a really lazy weekend - but thats not news. Thank you for your concern
Yes I know its Monday before you ask! I got to Brum this morning to get a message saying the rewiring of the new house I lodge in there is going so badly the house is uninhabitable so I could not stay so have spent an extra few hours on the motorway and will have to again tomorrow too I think Just what I dont need - I may book into somewhere tomorrow - hang the expense I am not sure I can cope with the journey on top of getting through the week!
I had a new boss start today - seems nice enough but it will be strange having a boss after so many years of managing myself!

The mug isn't that great to tell you the truth. It's just a standard looking cheapo white mug with the (not terribly good) orange and green logo on it. Now the <mat> on the other hand...
So what is it with the new boss? Have you been moved around? Has that boss, sorry can't remember her name, who didn't think your face fitted been moved?
As for the gossip stuff, I don't know Njan at all. And what I have encountered of Nyassabird I didn't like at all. She seemed like another bloody hippy to me. But hey, I wish them well.

I had not heard about the mouse mats ... Mind you mugs even if not great always come in handy
* sips some of her *
The boss you are thinking about is still there but has decided we need another layer of management and thats the chap who started today. I have a conversation with the old new boss on Wednesday to find out where she thinks I fit in now. Its going to be interesting. Luckily I am still doing some really interesting work - the challange is going to be having a boss who is close enough to the action to actually know what is going on and to keep getting the great opportunities I have been getting. I guess only time will tell!
I think they are going to need lots of luck - his parents have thrown him out and he is quitting college to go back to the USA to be with her and her two kids. Quite an undertaking for them both but he seems very happy so I guess it cant be all bad - following the heart is sometimes a good thing!

How strange is that!
And how come you have enough time on your hands to go and find it out!!!!
How has your week been?
Mine has been shall we say 'interesting'! The conversation with my old new boss (if you see what I mean) was not great and left me entirely demotivated about my work. My new new boss seems nice enough so we will have to see how that goes - we still have to talk about his views on who should be doing what - so still not sure how that will go.
Am also shattered - really did not need to spend most of the week driving up and down to work - digs were not ready till Thursday night and even then were a total tip and not really much more than a bed for the night. I had to remover the builders rubble from the bath before I could shower in the morning! Still I was out on the towm on Thursday evening so that was fun - eating a little drinking a lot and putting the world to rights!
There should be plenty of time for sleeping this weekend - had 12 hours last night already!
What you got planned?
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Feb 8, 2003
Well get lots of rest and stuff, ready for the week ahead
My plans revolve around tidying this place up a bit, putting up some new shelves (maybe) and doing a bit of writing for the guide.

Lighthousegirl - back on board Posted Feb 8, 2003
I will do my best - have nothing planned except housework, laundry, grocery shopping and generally getting ready for next week rather dull really
Where are you going to put new shelves? Are they for books by any chance?
Any thoughts about what you will write about?
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Feb 8, 2003
They are going up in the lounge where that wall hanging currently is.
ANy writing will be finishing off the bits and pieces that I have started and never finished.
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Feb 23, 2003
The shelves are unfinished - actually unstarted really
The writing is not done
And no, I did not have a good week
Rollos
Lighthousegirl - back on board Posted Feb 24, 2003
Sorry to hear that
Shelves will wait
As will the writing
Do you want to tell me about your week - will be on the work mail only for a couple of days
Is this week looking any better?
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Feb 24, 2003
Yes it is as a matter of fact. No specific reason for it looking better, as it is still the same garbage that I was wading through last week, and the week before and etc...
The highlight of this week will be going on a training course in Gloucester on Wednesday. I'll drive up tomorrow night and check into some holiday inn type of affair. Should be a right laugh
