Now I have been to one of them! Most strange experience! It was while I was living in Wales and many if not most of the conversations were in Welsh so the whole thing was rather sureal! Mind you what was even more bizzare after a couple of glasses of wine (compulsory at these things) it all made perfect sense 8)

I was just keeping a friends job open for him whilst he had to go back to England for a couple of weeks. It was no big deal. I just sat at the till keeping an eye out for the shoplifters and speaking in our native tongue to the only people who ever bought any of the shop's merchandise.

Oh OK!
Still there is nothing like the Brits abroad!

Disappointed in that story? Disappointed that I didn't say more, or that I said too much? Or do you want to hear totally different stories?

I mean, "Disappointed in that story? Disappointed that I didn't say more, or that I said too much? Or do you want to hear totally different stories?" Can't really say it much plainer than that really

Well stories are rather tamer than expected - not of course that I would understand if they were not!

Well I have not heard it described as that before!
Degrading, immoral, sordid etc yes but tedious! Ols jokes about doing it wrong spring to mind

You've never spent a day sitting in a shop surrounded by several thousand hard core pornographic magazines. About the only thing that varies between them is the model's hair colour, and that not much as they were mostly blond scandanavian types.
Degrading, immoral, sordid? That's open to a certain amount of debate. In some (large) parts of the industry I wouldn't disagree, but there are areas where I don't believe that it isn't. Just to give two short examples:
1) The girls in the Amsterdam brothels are unionized. They get better pay, health benefits and working conditions. That protects them and to some extent their clients.
2) The basic hard core porn mag is two or more people having sex. The imagery is far more honest than say the standard UK soft core, which I beleive does objectify women as sex objects. The interaction in soft core is between the reader and the image of the single woman on the page, with a portrayal of availablity. The hard core version does not do so in the same way because there is already another person within that image. Therefore the reader is the voyeur and excluded from the interaction of the people in the image. I do accept that that is not a general rule as there are specialist interests within both soft and hard core pornography, but I feel it stands in most cases.

You are right - I have never spent any length of time in that situation!
The sex industry is not something I have an informed opinion of my own on. I am not really sure how to explain quite what I think. The fact that I have a splitting headache right now is not helping the words flow properly.
Looking at my last post it was not good then either! Still you seem to have understood me then
I guess what I am trying to say is that while I accept that the sex industry is out there and has its place, it is not something that has a role in my world. The I guess old fashioned part of me still believes that it should be an act of love not physical need. Things that have happened to me during my life, that I am not at all prepaired to discuss here (or in other situations come to that) have only served to reinforce this view. It should be something whihc is mutually shared and enjoyed not done by one person to another.
I think any initatives which protect those involved and maintain their human dignaty are important. I think in general I agree with the points you are making in your second point too.

I feel we've hit a bit of drift here. Moving from juicy stories through pornography and on to love and relationships whilst missing out huge chunks, yet some how linking all three together.
My personal take on the porn/sex industry debate is that it does very little for me because I am not involved by it. I can think of better things in my own mind than some Danish photographer can come up with on my behalf. On the other hand I have no great problem with it, provided that the exploitation element is removed.
Sex and relationships? Well I've had both great and terrible sex both in and out of a relationship. For me they can function independently of one another. Your views are different, I respect that, and would not think to criticise.
And finally I apologise if I've hit on some raw nerves over the last few posts. T'was not my intention

After having you have a go at me for having a go at you about your spelling, I thought I would check out the facts. I can find only two mentions of spelling.
The first is #3 where I correct my own spelling of *munching*.
Then #9 where I ask how to spell Rolo. Up to that point I had been quite happily using your version.
So you see I haven't been picking on you

Hey
Unfortunately I often do not make the postings list in the week!
I seem to recall the spelling comments were not just here! But, well maybe not!
I had forgotten that the upgrade was today till I checked my mails! Now all I have to do is remember how they worked from the other place! Have you seen my brain - I am sure I left it somewhere

Ah-ha! Welcome back
It was really great to finally meet you on Saturday. You weren't quite what I was expecting somehow - and before you get paranoid, I'm refering to the sound of your voice. It rather threw me in the first instance.
Since coming home I've either been here talking about the Meet or talking about in IRL. I'm already anticipating the next one
Key: Complain about this post
