Good plan. Keep 'em on a *need to know* basis.
If you're dead, the police will tell them you're dead. If you're still alive, then no Inspector will call. That's all they need to know

Well I s'pose you could also plan and hold your own funeral and not invite them
I got round to asking her in the uniform which weekend she's going to Cardiff, and it is the 16th. Damn

Wow you're on late. I thought I'd missed you for the evening.
'Er in uniform, well its an accurate description
Cardiff? Haven't been there in nearly 30 years so I couldn't comment. All I know is they have well hard football fans.
So, how are you keeping?

Been a long day and I have not been home long
W**k is very interesting right now and there was a real hit the fan moment today - well several if truth be told. If I get the chance I will mail you all about it at the weekend but dont hold your breath - I have a friend coming to stay!
I have heard about the footie fans in recent weeks but when i lived there about 12 years ago it was a fab place to be I have not spent much time there for about 5 years - should go back sometime!
Whats happening in GD land?

Not much really, just sort of coasting at the moment. Lucy has been around some of the time, but shes on really early shifts at the moment and that somehow isn't conducive to a succesful nights sleep for either of us. So she's been going back to her flat after the pub.
I discovered a really good new sandwich recipe at my usual lunchtime haunt. Mozzarella, pesto and tomato on a large wholemeal roll for £1.70. Though of course sarnies are a bit of a closed book for you, but I'm happy.
Watched the storms from the pier. Did it several times for that matter.
Car has broken down again and I've picked up another parking ticket.

Got anything fun planned for the weekend?

GreyDesk Posted Feb 7, 2002
I've been doing some insane ACEing today. I used the "show which researchers have activated their user page function" and then set the conditions for "in the last twelve months".
I found 45 user pages in need of ACEing (see MP165955 for details)
Most, are by now dead accounts, but I do hold out some hope on a couple of them.
Oh and the reason I spent the afternnon ACEing. I've got a bit of a fever at the moment and didn't feel up to going to a meeting in London, so stayed home today. I feel a quite a bit better now, and will probably be going to work tomorrow.
As for the weekend. Well my car breaking down has scuppered my plans so far. I had been planning on going to Sheff to watch the Blades v Portsmouth. I wouldn't have gone under normal circumstances, but I've got a ticket for the match - you see I had to buy one as part of the conditions of getting a ticket for the Wednesday match.
Oh well, never mind. I'm sure I'll think of something - like being right here

Should have gone Four Three victory with an injury time winner. It would have been great fun - true I probably would never have made it, what with the car's engine blowing up some near Leicester.

Hello - good to see you!
Nothing better than to see a man !
I kinda assumed that you were being all romantic and mushy with a certain before she went away for the weekend!
How has your week been?
Mine started badly simply as it was the end of a great weekend - reality hit with a bit much of a bump! I was in London on MOnday for some very stressful and tense meetings. I was meant to meet Abi for and a gossip but as you may know she has been poorly.
Tuesday I did a performance review with my Administrator and there are lots of performance issues which I had to communicate and which she does not acknowledge - hard work and left me feeling very low. Brief High point - my new car arrived
Wednesday meetings all day and my Administrator messing up lots more and Thursday we had to revisit all the issues just for a change! I hate having to activate formal performance management but we are so very close! I feel very let down after I have defended her and given her another chance. Thursday she accused me of bullying and persicuting her - interestingly the same accusations as she levelled at her last boss! As you can imagine this did noting to lift my mood. It was quite a relief when my boss laughed at this suggestion!
Friday I worked from home which was great but there has been a total disaster in the village as you may have seen if you have been to my fan club! There was a really really big fire. The good news is noone was seriously hurt but the bad news is that the pub is totally gutted. It must have been terrible to watch your whole life and your whole livelyhood go up in flames.
I met with friends in the village last night - instead of supper at the pub (which was the plan) we got a curry and drank far to much wine Nobody knows yet if they will be able to save the pub, its a listed building. If they can will it reopen as a pub, or will it becoma a house? How long will it all take? will the landlord be able to wait that long? He is excellent and not the type who will sit around for long - he has so much drive and energy and does just a brilliant job that someone will offer him something
So much grief for one week! I am exhausted!
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Feb 17, 2002
So it was a busy week then.
Terrible news about the pub. Are they going to rebuild it? As its a country pub in a small village, isn't it more likely to get turned into a house on rebuilding due to economic reasons.
Also a shame about your admin support going phut. Is this just them, or is it some personality clash between the two of you? The later I guess would be the easier to deal with. But hey what do I know, I'm an Accountant, so by definition I have no social skills what so ever.
Nice news about the car. Mine seems to be alright at the moment apart from a dodgy wheel bearing which is getting fixed at the end of next week. Until then I'll just drive along squeeking
Oh, and my 'puter is knackered, hence the name change

Sorry - that was rather a rant wasent it
The pub is a listed building and was the first owned by the brewery outside their home town, so we are hopeful on sentimental grounds that they get on and fix it! We were pleased to see the MD of the brewery in the village during the fire and he was very impressed by how much part of the community it is so we hope that will help up too. I am busy organising everyone into writing to the brewery yo loby them as well. It would be terrible for the viallage if it became a house
My Admin support and I - its a tough call, but since she is leveying the same accusations at me as she did my predisessor I dont think its a personality clash. She does annoy me but that is more because she wont make an effort. When I talked about it with my boss he laughed and said her accusations of bullying were ludicrous and then giggles and said that if expecting someone to do the basics of their job was persicution then it was a trait he should encourage!
I hope you dont have to be a total stranger while your 'puter is fixed - I will miss talking with you
I have been working this pm too, but at least I could do that from home. Any chance of them giving you a notebook so you could do the same?

GreyDesk Posted Feb 17, 2002
Well as the pub is a listed building, it would be difficult for the brewery to get planning permission to convert it into a house. Where as permission to install a juke box, shiny vinyl seating and some beer taps should be no problem at all
(True you'll have to go thirsty for a while, but there you go.)
Oh, and I'm back. After surfing at work I drove over to PC World to see about getting it fixed. Well I've booked it in but the earliest date I could get was APRIL !!!! So I decided to try the repair myself. I bought loads of CDRs and copied all of my stuff on to them and then did a full system restart, taking the PC back to its factory conditions. Its worked, IE is now fixed. But it don't feel like my old 'puter yet. I've got loads of settings and things to change and software to reinstall
But fundementally, I've got a working ISP and a cookie for this place, so I'm happy

I'm still having problems with reinstalling stuff. I've been sending plaintive e-mails to various software companies saying, "hi I bought your program last year - how do I reregister it 'cos I've lost your original e-mail back to me".
Hopefully I'll get a raft of replies saying what a silly boy, here are the codes. What I fear is a reply saying, "click here and pay us another $25"
Still haven't recovered my favourites list or my saved e-mail yet. I've got a copy OK, but can't get it to talk to the ISP. AOL's on line help have gone and ring this number instead.
Ho hum. Just as well I've got tomorrow off to try to get it all fixed
