Right. Here's the thing. I'm seriously considering a move to Bonnie Scotland next year, so I'm fact finding at the moment.
Edinburgh vs Glasgow vs other places?
Housing, schooling, other practicalities?
Culture shock liklihood? (Given that I'm from Norn Iron, so not a million miles away....)
Please fire away - what's the best and worst bits about life north of the Border?

Glasgow, got be. Next!
I suppose it comes down to whither you want to be in a city or out and where you hope to work which will be the major factors. There is at least one other Irishman lurking around who can tell you what, if any, culture shock you may experience. But you have been to many other places so I doubt that would be a problem.
Glasgow is better than Edinburgh though. No messin, ken.

Ta!
Definitely be a city, for jobs reasons, I reckon. (Civil servicey, acountancy type area...)
Edinburgh's so pretty though....

Edinburgh does have more of the Civil Service and Finance work but it also will have congestion charging and tourists. Tough choice.

Edinburgh
I spent all summer with tourist rage. Can't get on a bus, always stuck in traffic so late for work, council tax is a fortune, you get thrown out your own city centre at Hogmany for the party that only tourists seem to get tickets for ...
But it is a pretty city.
Now, while I am here...
Does anyone happen to know the opening times of the Hibees shop at Easter Road stadium? The website doesn't give the opening times

Solve the Edinburgh vs Glasgow problem by moving to Falkirk - lovely little place, easy to commute to either big city and you can look at the pretty lights of Grangemouth every night

Split the differwence come to sunny West Lothian right in the middle. Preferably in the Linlithgow and Falkirk Eat constistuency then you can vote for me in the genreal elecetion.
As for Cultural differences from Northern Ireland.
There are disputes over Orange marches. Disputes over Roamn Catholic schools. People are surprised if you don't support either Celtic or Rangers sop not much change really.
Also as you're not English you are more welcome than the sashanachs.

So I'd more to the east or south of Falkirk itslef in that case if you want to be Ford's drinking partner.

That's what I call early canvassing
Of course Glasgow is always raining but Edinburgh is up its own bum.
I have lived in both and prefer Glasgow to Edinburgh. Which begs the question what the hell am I still doing living here

You're still in Edinburgh cos it's pretty!
I've lived in both Glasgow and Edinburgh too and Glasgow wins for gigging and stuff, but I still prefer the Edinburgh pubs

But I never leave the house except for the 'local shops for local people' on Easter Road
I used to love the 13th note - used to go there every saturday for drinks and a veggie meal. Then they changed it and moved
Then we would all go home and get changed and head up to the Cathouse (before it moved) and get and dance the night away - aaagh - those were the days!

Edinburgh is cleaner, prettier, and there is *slightly* less chance of being stabbed to death on a Saturday night.
I've always lived in or near Glasgow (except for one year)and i'm sick to the back teeth of it So i am a little biased...
