As far as I can tell, it's quite a bit of sugar mixed into a sort of custard that takes on the consistency of pumpkin pie. Tastes like creme brulee though. Good stuff.

Well... I do happen to have 2 pieces of chess pie with me. There is an inherent difficulty with playing chess on them, though. You see, they are shaped triangularly, and a triangle chess board is exhaustingly complex. It also seems that the chess pie has a tendency to swallow the chess pieces--which also makes the pie itself quite unsavory.
