Empty Sky (Remember me fondly.) Posted Dec 25, 2002
Thanks for the kind wishes, Della, and Merry Christmas to you too. You are so lucky to live in New Zealand. I hope to visit it one day. Do you have monkeys there? Not that it matters really.

All mammals are exotic to NZ
The monkeys are in zoos... or the beehive
Merry *day after boxing day* everyone and all the best for the new year

I allegeadly worked in Auckland for a month once and had a great time.
Mind you it was a bit warmer and sunnier than what Della is describing atm

"All mammals are exotic to NZ"
Does that include people?

Linus, how does one "allegedly work"? Please let me know, so I can try it.

Linus, it *did* used to be a lot warmer than it is here now! What went wrong? I am fair sick of moaning about it though...
Re monkeys, Empty Sky, *I* was going to use the Beehive line..
Cafram, on Christmas Day I *finally* got around to seeing LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring (yeah, I know, a long time after everyone else). Well, as y'all already know, it's WONDERFUL!!!! I have the soundtrack on CD, but the film is *breath-taking!*

It's so hot here now I want winter!!!
Della, I'm going to see LOTR:TT *again* tonight - go and see it!! Please!!!
the only good thing about summer - beer tastes *great*
Kia Ora/G'day Two: alive and kicking
six7s Posted Dec 28, 2002
Why is Aussie beer served so ing cold???
Any warmer and you could taste it
six7s
*very nearly sunburnt, very definitely sandfly bitten*
*roll on summer*

*gently reminds Cafram that John Cleese was talking about Aussie Beer*
To be honest, mainstream Kiwi beer is pathetic also but there are some pleasing exceptions
six7s
*still a bit fuzzy from the sauvignon blanc quaffed this afternoon*
PS I am not going to argue about wine ~ Aussie reds are brilliant, as are our whites

cafram - in the states. Posted Dec 28, 2002
He also said it about American beer - I'm sure he must've said it about Kiwi beer at some point
Only the Tassie beers are really any good here - Boags and Cascade are yummy
I'm most definatley not a wine drinker. Anything else is fine, but not wine

six7s and Cafram found me and invited me over. i've just been for a swim, so it must be summer. i had to turn the heater on full when i got home though {}, so definitely a nz summer
i've only read the first and last pages of this thread, so hope its ok to just jump in here. (i take it the original subject title was ironic then )
its a quarter to eight in the evening here. where is everyone ? i hope you all don't have real lives
i might go watch some telly. see you later.

Welcome Kia
Empty Sky: to allegedly work is to turn up and look busy without actually doing much (don't forget to carry that bit of paper around!) and then at the last minute do a little bit more than all the incompetents you are surrounded by so you look good and then rush of to the pub asap
As for beer, i quite liked Black Macs when i was in Auckland. You can't go past the Coopers range though (i specialise in drinking Coopers Dark Ale), some of the James Squires beers are good, as are Little Creatures and the Hightail Ale from Mountain Goat breweries.
No arguements from me on NZ whites, or our reds for that matter.
So much to drink, so little time

Hi kea!
Pleased to hear (or rather read ) that you like Macs Linus, its brewed in my (small, provincial) home town
However, if you ever go back to Auckland, I can recommend a visit to a pub in the old library at the top of Mt Eden Rd, near Symonds St (alzheimers setting in, can't remember the name despite dozens of *visits*... hmmm, perhaps *because of* those visits)
Their on-site micro brewery makes some of the v best and I have ever had the pleasure of swallowing
All this agreeing re wine... is trans Tasman rivalry dead or just on holiday ????

Glad you found your way over kea
I suspect that the trans-tasman rivalry has lapsed because of the nasty humid weather. we're having here. With the coming of this thunderstorm I can see on the horizon, I'm sure it will start anew
