It makes it easier for people who want to look at the entry.

OK I've never done this before, so ... what has to happen for this article to get into the Guide?

If you've succesfully dealt with all the suggestions in PR, either by doing them or giving good reasons why you're not going to do them, then the entry sits here forever. Or until a scout thinks it is good enough to pick. The scout will recommend it to the Eds, the Eds make the final decision and then it is announced as picked.
If it does get picked, a copy is made, marked "Recommended", which you can't change. It gets given to a sub-editor, and a month or two later it appears on the Front Page as an Edited Entry.

oh ok
I'm sure you all know what you're doing, but isn't that kind of ineffecient? it must take forever to update articles

Updating is a different process. If you want a small change to an existing entry, we can do it in minutes. But we have to make sure the entries are good to start off.

The Editing process can take a long time on h2g2 - in comparison to the likes of Wikipedia and Uncyclopedia. On the other hand, you have to remember that the Edited guide is 'only' a special section of the whole guide. Regular (non-edited) Entries can be written and edited (by the author) very rapidly.
Cheerio!

Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!
h2g2 auto-messages Posted Mar 7, 2006
Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

so ... it's a for sure thing now that it's GOING to be in the Edited Guide? or can the sub-editor decide he or she doesn't like it and send it back?
