Then do please have some Though I'm rather embarrassed by its, er, general runniness
I did miss your series in the Post!
And I have now located it! And a recipe for lasagna in the first one I found.
(I am a rubbish cook, as well as a horrible gardener. But then ... well, you can see the cake )

Oratory? That was just me talking
Y'know, if you joined the Ozark Party, we'd be very happy to give you a proper title (how about Chairman of the International Ozark Committe?) and best of all, you use your position for the good of the site. Because everyone has a voice.
Hyp - someone mentioned sheep dip somewhere. That's not something that could really be made, is it?

Hypatia Posted Sep 20, 2005
Jodan, I promised Buck not to ever bathe him again. So I will protect him from sheep dips, flea dips, shampoos and conditioners. I've been around him for so long that I hardly even notice the smell anymore.
*tries a piece of cake* It has a nice flavor, but it is a bit...errr....moister than normal. If you put a scoop of ice cream on it, I'll bet no one would notice.

(Sincere aside: I really wasn't kidding about the gardening, or the cooking. It's amazing I'm still alive and not yet overgrown by a shrub of some sort. And yet, having located the 'Cranky Gardener' archive, I am now three instalments in, because the quality of the writing and the enthusiasm of the author are hooking me. It probably won't make me rake anything in the near future, but it will make me look at The Post more carefully from now on).

Ice cream?
Clever ... I'll give it a go. Or I'll just go with straight ice cream.

I am planning a new series on container gardening. But I'm not sure if the Post is interested or not. I sent one and they didn't run it, so they may be tired of them. But I could start doing gardening articles for the new University. And Jodan, I could finally do my barbecue series as a Uni project.

Ah yes. The great barbecue controversy. I will of course endeavor to help in any way.
She's very talented, ain't she Trin?

I can't. I've given my word and there's no turning back. The only way I could join the Ozark cause would be as a turncoat, as a man without honour. I wouldn't be able to look myself in the face in the mornings.
I could get rid of all the mirrors ... ?
No. Can't be done. My word is my bond.

J Posted Sep 20, 2005
I've turned away from a cause when I no longer saw its noble cause. I was worried that I couldn't look at myself in the mirror for effectively failing to help the noble cause that I believed was right. What honor is there in helping something you don't believe in? Is the bond of your word strengthened or weakened by your heart not backing them?
Oh, and it's a secret ballot, you know

Ah, now, I never said that: I believe very deeply *puts hand over heart* in the need for Reddyfreddy to be president, as the individual best placed to smash the 2legs hegemony. Because that's what it's all about.
And I have mentioned that he'll almost certainly be stepping down at that point, haven't I? He just wants to smash the hegemony - that's very much 'his gig' - before calling a fresh election and giving way to a candidate better placed to deal with all the other stuff, hegemony free.
Hey! Here's a thought! Why doesn't the Ozark Party call on all its followers to vote Reddyfreddy in what is, when you come to think about it, basically no more than a preliminary vote to elect a temporary president, then we'll do the same for you in the much more important election that will (leaving highly unlikely unforeseen circumstances aside) follow that one pretty much immediately? What do you say?

Hah. I was eating some cornbread when I read that and now I have to wipe it from the screen
I believe we are well placed to do any hegemony smashing that may need to be done. Personally, I don't know why it needs to be smashed. If you can convince me that it needs to be smashed and that we're not fit to do it, well you can have my vote
That's not how a Republican democracy works, though. Elect one candidate to deal with one issue, then elect another to deal with other issues... Nope. You pick the very best one. Which is none other than Hypatia.

Ah ha! *Takes a closer look* Oh. Right. I just saw the end of the sentence and got all excited. I'll have to have a think about ways to convince you.
Are we sure this is a republican democracy? It's got a king (2legs - hegemony, anyone?), several deities, distinct signs of a canton-like structure in places - a democratic neo-theocratical constitutional monarchy with a side-salad of anarcho-syndicalism. Which allows for all sorts of comings and goings, election-wise.
Don't you trust Reddyfreddy to step down afterwards? He would, you know. He just wants to smash that hegemony and be on his way.
Cornbread? Having read a fair few of Hypatia's recipes at this stage, I'm feeling really hungry

J Posted Sep 20, 2005
Well, the Presidential part is sort of a Republican-Democracy, but I take your point. If we included all that, well, by the time I typed it up, the election would be over.
You haven't convinced me of anything Not even that RF is capable of smashing a hegemony. Or how one goes about doing that. Or even what a hegemony is...

Hyp, when did you send in the container gardening article? Was it before or after Shazz went offline?
You could try resending it - I think Reefgirl (who is the one mainly in charge right now) might be greatful for all contributions she can get.
Now, how did I end up in this conversation?
*wanders off trying to retrace her conversation hopping*
