Is it that time of the year already?

I know! It seems time has really flown this year ...

I heard that they repainted the pub too, It used to be a rather dingey green, with very old dark beams. Its a little thatched pub, very quaint. I hear that they have sand blasted the beams and that they are beautiful now. The walls are a rich cream colour with lots of mirrors. I gather it looks much bigger too. The floor has ancient terracotta tiles. There are two fireplaces, one either side of the chimney breast that goes up through the middle of the bar. A real English country pub! And the drinks ....

Well lets just say they wont be shutting on time tonight smiley - winkeye

Probably run by 'The Harvester' chain now then smiley - sadface

Why do they keep changing perfectly good pubs to things like 'The Wishing Well' and 'Slug and Lettuce' when they'd been known by 'The Queens Head' and 'Red Lion' for centuries?

Should not be allowed should it. Luckily it is still a 'real' pub, it is tied to a local brewery though. I think it is too remote and too small for any of the chains to be seriously interested. They would never get planning permission to make it big enough to make it profitable enough for them and there is almost no passing trade or oportunity for it smiley - smiley

Changing the names of pubs makes for intersting times when people navigate by pubs as landmarks! You know turn left at the old red lion, which when you get there is not called the red lion any more ...

Had a blissful afternoon yesterday, sitting outside a local country pub, lovely view across the village, excellent cod and chips with a spritzer that was more chardonnay than soda.

Glorious sunshine, good company and only few noisy brats to spoil the ambience!

Mind you, I can remember the days when my father used to go in and check that the pub was a suitable for my mother to go in! Some locals could be realy rough, the pubs too smiley - winkeye

Thank goodness it has changed mostly - when I went to Cardiff my father took me to the nearest pub to halls for a drink as we had arrived to early. I was the only woman in there and we were asked to go through to a different bar smiley - erm We did not drink there that much as students, it was a real working locals pub and generally a woman free zone! That was not *that* long ago either!

Hey, no1 son is down in Pontypridd! Went into a pub there a few months ago and I was beginning to think I had two heads, but it was 'cos I was the only woman in the pub!

That having been said I know some great watering holes down there (as I am sure does your son!) I really enjoyed my time down there

Apart from the University, there isn't a lot in Ponty and I think he is quite relieved that it is his last year.

So am I, its cost an arm and leg!
