Wasn't me! I mean, I did eat cabbages last night but that doesn't sound so.. spooky.

well, chicory/endive are called xmas salad in danish. so there
and i guess brussel sprouts go well with turkey
but i have my heart set on red cabbage, cooked with cumin. goes very well with duck roast

we ended up with duck roast, pork roast, potatoes, sugarcoated potatoes and red cabbage cooked in blackcurrant juice (alas, no cumin). and of course duck sauce and pork sauce. everything very traditional. the duck had of course been stuffed with apples and prunes.
for dessert we had the traditional risalamande (sweetened cold rice porridge mixed with whipped cream and chopped almonds and spiced with vanilla). as usual there was one whole almond in it and i was lucky enough to get it and win the almond prize
we had with the main course and a very fine australian tokay, that i stumbled upon by accident not long ago, with the dessert.
i assisted son #2 cooking everything but the red cabbage, which was the w*rk of my ex. our teamw*rk was excellent and everything turned out perfectly
needless to say i am very proud of him
attending the party was my ex, our three kids and my mother and we had an excellent time. the ex had not gotten around to buy an so son #1, daughter and i drove around for a couple of hours trying to find a "last minute ". i felt like arnold schwarzenegger . in the end we found one of the finest trees we have ever had. it was one of the cheapest ever as well. and since we had to fell it ourselves it should last for a week at least

Oh dear! That was quite a report.
I was at my mothers. We had the usual stuff, including spotted dog and risalamande. I am still sleepy.

Now there will be more complicated task - the tradition says that on New Year's Eve one must have 12 different courses on meal on the table. Not that I always follow the concept but still I want it to be.. plenty.

no, the first few courses should be regular food
like mashed potatoes and risalamande. those dishes will usually quickly stop any guests craving for more

Even I have some . I just brought it up from the cellar (and found out that the temperature there is only +2C, so I had to cover the window and take other precautions as we expect -15...-17C in few days).
As for the rest of the dinner, I'll go shopping now.
