Blind Man's Bluff is a fun and exciting party game for all ages. It is part of an on going project to build an index to party games and parlour games here at h2g2.

Blind Man's Bluff is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A574797.

The Masquerade (The Game Index) is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A574779.

If this is part of a larger project, I would strongly suggest that you submit it as a University project rather than through Peer Review.

I think it is more fun and more productive to submit entries through Peer Review than as a University Project. You will get much better feedback as to any problems if you go through Peer Review. In a University project you and your fellow researchers are isolated from the rest of the h2g2 community. No-one sees your work until it is finished.

This game is normally called Blind Man's Buff. Did you mistype or is it also called Blind Man's Bluff?

You don't need the bullet-point dots and the numbers. I suggest you leave out the numbers.

I'm not sure where Gnomon's from, but we always called it Blind Man's Bluff (with the L) where I grew up (midwestern US).

I actually like the feedback cycle better in the University system -- I get to work with other researchers and a sub-editor who have read all the entries on the project, and are familiar with the topic. The ability to work back and forth with a sub-editor can also be great.

"BLUFF" is the proper. BMB will stay here, but I will submit The Masquerade as a university project. How's that?

Sounds like a superb idea, George!

Let me know if you want/need some help with the University project -- I'd be willing to be your sub-editor if you like!

The game is known as Blind Man's Buff in the UK and Ireland.

I've checked my (UK) dictionary. It lists the game as Blind Man's Buff (without the L). The word buff is an old form of buffet (a light thump), presumably because the other players buffet the blindfolded person while he tries to catch them. Perhaps you might put that in a foot note.

There, if you had gone straight in as a University project, you wouldn't have learned that.

I think you need a little bit more information on the game, more background/history. Add a picture of a blindfolded guy walking with his arms stretched out, add some more typage. I think it has very simple ideas, elaborate on them, bring them out to make a 3 year old understand the exact way to play the game....just my ideas

Could you explain exactly how I should simplify it? I'm afraid I over complicate everything.

King and Cripple

Im thinking...normal child around the age of 8 or 9 on up understanding the main principles behind this game. this is what you have right now...here is what I am thinking, a 3 year old with normal intellect and understanding exactly what going on and why. this is a difficult task...but I think we can do it.

#1 define the word/phrase then define each word and how it takes part in the game. for example:
Blind Man: A man, that is visually impared
Bluff: Attempting to show knowledge on a subject that you do not know nothing about.
Blind Man's Bluff: A man that is visually impared attempting to show knowledge on a subject that he does not know, namely sight because he lacks it.

(this is where you would put the steps in the game)

"Where?" is a good question, but the great part about the game is that it can be anyway...proceed to list a number of areas the game can be played and the pro's and con's of playing in those areas...for example fields are great because they are big and flat and can house a huge number of people, but, because there are so big, the blind man just may find himself wandering into unknown territories, namely the drunken redneck with a shotgun in hand's property. Rooms...elaborate, houses...elaborate (make sure and include why stairs can be such a DOWNFALL...literally), anypalce you can think of add it with some pros and cons.

the number of how many can play this game can be expressed in many ways: #1 way- 3...4...5...6...7...8...9...continue forever and ever until you reach the approximate population of earth and the minor outlying planets and their moons. #2 way- [3,infinity). #3 way- the series of whole numbers greater than the integer 2. list another if you want...be creative.

include the risk of large lumps arising on foreheads after bumping into trees and precautionary measures to keep that from happening. MORE MORE MORE

list and describe the ABMB techniques (ie. the whammi-the sudden and unexpected bashing of the blind man by each other game player with a pillow optionally filled with rocks, beans, grass, sticks, or the neighbors cat.) try to find at least two more.

anyway you get the idea...(i think you didn't get it before, i didn't mean it was too complicated, i meant it was to simple...) have fun with the entry!

my 2 sense
sorry for it being so long

Looks good to me - glad to see you gave King and Cripple a mention after all his hard work.
Sorry but I just can't read this with the L in it, the game will always be Blind Man's Buff to me. Maybe the alternate UK/US name thing deserves something more prominent than a footnote? (just to ease the furrowed brows of all us Brit and Irish players smiley - winkeye)
