A possible meetup for NYC researchers?
Batty_ACE Started conversation Sep 17, 2001
In light of events I thought it might be nice for NYC researchers to meet up and talk. Would anyone be interested?

I would be! I'm not technically in NYC, but I'd like to come!

Great!
Hopefully we'll get more takers... even if it's just a cheap dinner or an evening of jazz at Cleopatra's Needle or something...

I think sometime before next summer we should all meet up in NYC (and while I'm from Philly, it's far easier than Boston) I'd get myself up there for an afternoon and evening perhaps... people interested?

I work nights, so weekends are best for me.

Since I live here I'll let the out of towners come up with a convenient date. I'm out of town the week of Oct. 13th then anything else is flexible until May/June. I can make the arrangements. I'll also try to weasel a decent hotel rate out of a friend for anyone wanting to stay.

If it's easier for people to get to NY that fine by me. Have car will travel. If there is anyone else from Massachusetts going I could even offer a ride. I like to drive

Well I am up for it. Is this somthing we are going to be putting together for the next few months or is this down the road a piece?

I'm hoping we can get this together for sometime before the end of the year. But we can go into next year if we need to.
I think everyone thus far is hoping for a weekend, which would be perfect.
Once I know when and more or less how many I'll try to negotiate a "h2g2 NE" rate at a friend's hotels for anyone wanting to stay overnight. This way nobody has to drive.

I'll second the weekend bit... how about maybe november, early december?
This is enticing, having always read about the british meetups with *extreme jealousy*

I don't think I've been to New York since 1983.
It will be very sad to see the smoldering holes
that used to be very tall office buildings.
I live on the edge of Boston. I don't mind taking
a bus, but I'm a little nervous about flying
out of Logan. Maybe sharing a ride?
Most weekends are okay, except Sat. Oct. 20,
Nov. 3, and Dec. 1. If we wait past late November,
the weather could get unpredictable.

weekends are best for me. Paul is right about the weather though after late december the snow and ice will be creaping in on us. Paul if you live on the edge of Boston I can help with the ride part.

Okay so if we come up with a weekend date I'll go to Adele for a decent hotel rate. Which is still bordering on indecent since it's NYC we're talking about, but they're nice little hotels.
I think the first part of November would be best since after that the holiday shopping season starts and it will get more crowded.
Also re the changed skyline. The hotels are on the East side in mid and upper Manhattan, so you really won't see the WTC much. As you drive in you will notice that the buildings are gone but not smoking still.
Any opinions on where we meet/eat?

perhaps someone should post on all the NE researchers' pages letting them know we're up to something

Hey, mind if I come along?
I'll find someway to get out of Boston and to New York. Flying has never been a personal favorite, though, since you have to take those damn shuttle planes. But anyway...
Who knows? Maybe I can hitch a ride with Paul H...

Er,
Courtney, rather...
Not to impose, of course.

I took the liberty of making us a page... now we're an official prospective meetup!
