I don't think it would be wise for me to call them cuz they're not really into the idea of computers-I don't know why...

And Shorty can contact AA. And I'll give Shea an A+ on her report.

Is anyone planning to do a bit of meteor watching this weekend now that the heat wave is over?
This will be the second year we've attempted to have a worldwide meteor watch here on h2g2 - the first year was a bust with most of the northern hemisphere socked in behind clouds.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A411111 will show you what I'm talking about and http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A612389 is where you can put the 2001 results if you're interested in taking part.
I think we're in store for some clear skies this time, only the last-quarter moon will be shining after midnight so really dim meteors will be lost in the moonshine (the light, not the booze! ).
If you're interested, I'll try to add you to the project pages in the very near future! If you've never seen a meteor shower before, it's well worth it to try and watch one. This is one of the best because it has a lot of meteors and because it takes place in the summer (the other good showers are all winter events and it can be mighty cold in mid-November and December!).

It's rainy and grey here ... I don't know about any meteor watching tonight!
My folks used to live in the Adirondacks, and I'd make it a point to visit them every year around this time. I'd get a lounge chair, lie it out on the dock, and watch the shower. One year was absolutely spectacular! It was like watching a fireworks show, but better! I was out there alone, hooting with delight!

94 was a good year. My lovely wife and I went out into the wilds of Perry County and sat on the hood of her car for 4 or 5 hours watching the Perseids.
It's nearly impossible *not* to hoot and shout when a really big one crackles through the sky leaving a big smokey trail behind it.
Man, does that ever sound geeky!

y? No!
I can't see the shower from where I am, there's too much light polution, and the sky is still clouded over and drizzling.
