*thinking*
The entire NE US is a very large area, lots of differnt landscapes... that may be too much to try to depict.
Colors? Something that looks equally good on Goo and the white backgrounds...
Lots to consider...

Something that shows green hills, a mountain, some factory/machinery, and a little bit of agriculture. A prominently placed historical-looking building should be included. Maybe a horse.

I dunno. That sounds like too much for a group icon.
Personally, I'd take a map of the United States and isolate the states that comprise our region. Take that, and turn each state to a different color. Add an N and an E joined together at the side, with the E's baseline placed lower than the E's... It might work.
It's really more functional than creative. Does anyone else have opinions?

The problem with a map is that we don't have a lot of room to work with. The banner can't be bigger than 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels high. They also offer a quadrangle of 200x160 (or 160x200). The badge can't be larger than 110x110 pixels.
For the Northwest US Researchers they did mountains and a wolf. The problem with the Northeast US is that there are so many *different* things to depict! I kinda like Mr. C's idea. A mountain can depict so many different areas in the region, as can farming. We just have too many historic landmarks!
Of course, we can always throw these ideas up to the artist that's doing it, and see what they think of.

We seem to have just about every terrain here... mountains and valleys, beaches and gently rolling areas.
But yes, there are farms all over the place and mountains throughout the area too.

Well, tell us what you think it should look like, at least.

I like the idea of the long sized banner. Starting on the left with mountains, going to hills, going to farmland, going to suburb, going to city, going to ocean ...
That should cover it ...
Should we have a motto? "The Northeastern US Researchers: Lots of silly regional accents!"

Ooooooooh, that's kinda what I was thinking - and I like the thing about the regional accents too!
Will all this fit and look ok in the limited pixel space allotted?
And what goes on the badge?

So do we put this to a vote and see what everyone else on here thinks of the banner idea? Or just sneak it past them and tell them to like it or else?

Yes, you're supposed to like what we picked out...
That's 3 votes in favor of the mountains to beaches banner, any other votes?

I figure I'll leave this up for a while to see what everyone thinks, get everyone's ideas, then put it up for the artists.

I'm for mountaints to beeches!
I think, instead of a wolf, maybe a small Paul Revere character on the badge. Like the monopoly piece.
